The guitar-and-drum backbone of these songs may place them in the indie rock universe, but really, what makes “Fantasies” so irresistible is Emily Haines’ pop instincts. “Fantasies” is one of those albums that hammers out one absolute banger after another. This is the album that probably introduced you to Metric. It's their biggest sounding, catchiest, most streamlined release, and yeah, it's one hell of a pop record. Melodically straightforward and simple? Totally. Almost to a fault. But Emily Haines' vocal and lyrical presence is fucking magical and I dare you to give this a few listens and not find yourself jamming along to pretty much every song.
