Not sure what's happened to this guy. Forget brought charm with its approach of applying the cheese of new romantic to 4AD's signature (to this decade), bedroom pop style. Ever since, it seems as if there have been confused attempts to appeal to a more commercial audience perhaps as some sort of contemporary to The Weeknd, except without the voice or any kind of standout presence to pull it off? This offers a bit more restraint in its introspective approach compared to the overblown Eclipse, ... read more

This is the most typical 6.8 album in Pitchfork history, and I will be surprised how much they will give a different rating.

Honestly this has some pretty cool textures going on, but the songwriting leaves a lot to be desired.

A lot better than Eclipse, but far from the quality of his first two albums. If George had been making this in 1983, he could've been a superstar. As someone who has admittedly been a huge fan of his work, it's nice that he released an album I don't hate again even though I'm not sure how much of this I'll be coming back to down the road.

But while there are a handful of really great tunes on here that prove that Twin Shadow still has plenty of gas in the tank, why is it that I feel like he’s holding back in such a big way?

Only single I heard before hand was Saturdays and that kinda made me expect something a lot more upbeat. I enjoyed the production alot on this. Even on the slower tracks but the lyrics dragged down a bit especially at the end of the album

The opening track, "Brace," starts things off strongly as Lewis' voice is used well over the top of the backing vocals and instrumentations while exploring the affects of a damaging relationship and the difficulties of escaping one. The song appears to set the tone early as a stand-out, but things drop off quite quickly over the next few tracks. 18 Years is another solid track, with some ... read more
