Interesting release. A mesh of disparate electronics, Jazz, shattered soul, and off-rap, making this one of the more memorable Cities Aviv releases. Not for grab and go listeners. Definitely a record to sit with for years to come.
As usual, Cities’ rapping on this release is serviceable, if not overly exciting, but the true draw is his production work. The production on Raised for a Better View defies classification. It is consistently ethereal with traces of ambient, trip-hop, glitch-hop, and even jazz scattered throughout. At times, the mixing is a bit subpar, and the project as a whole sounds a bit muddy. The music is also a tad on the forgettable side, but, overall, this album is a pretty pleasant listen.
