Consequence of Sound

At 10 breezy tracks, Care for Me isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s an honest-to-god album that develops ideas at its own pace.

90
PopMatters

Although delivered as a plea, Saba's message is necessarily uplifting and therapeutic. Though everything is grey, bleak, dull around him, a care for himself and for his neighbors brings a clarity and vibrancy enough to enjoy the present and fight for a better future.

90
AllMusic

As musically vibrant as it is emotionally vulnerable, Care for Me is a triumph of expression, as personally and creatively fearless as Frank Ocean's Blond or Björk's Vulnicura. Over the course of these ten soul-baring songs, diving deep into grief becomes a form of necessary catharsis and part of a healing process.

HipHopDX

With Care For Me, Saba accomplished his objective by making an album that can endure for years to come. His higher aspirations won’t afford him the visibility of the rappers acting out for attention, but projects like Care For Me should put him into the discussions of his generation’s best Hip Hop artists.

Pitchfork

The grief-stricken Chicago rapper’s latest is a marvel of craft, musicality, and emotion. Through Saba’s inner turmoil, he finds his most powerful and diaristic storytelling.

A.V. Club

There’s an introspective urgency to Saba’s songs, like they’re the only thing keeping the 23-year-old from succumbing to the systemic and social madness that surrounds him on Chicago’s West Side, and that rawness has only expanded on sophomore effort Care For Me.

'CARE FOR ME' is that rare album that delights with a discernible, pervasive aesthetic.

Exclaim!
Saba confronts his life by writing every thought possible, storytelling to let listeners be aware that he struggles too, possibly with things he can't seem to escape from. His honesty and melodic, calming choruses and singing are for those who want to hear something real.

Under The Radar

The mood of Care For Me never transcends beyond the distraught-but-defeated, the loneliest state for anyone to find themselves in, with no hope of getting out into the light again. With that being said, it is an impressive feat for Saba to have created this mood so convincingly, albeit seemingly unintentional.

It's April, 6, 2018 5:00 pm eastern time. The sky is purple and blue and it drizzles with light rain. From my window, i can see the red orange maple leaves fall and fill up the sidewalks of Villeray, in Montreal Canada close to where I was staying for vacation. The only people at home rn is me and my dog who is sleeping on one of my blankets. I put on my Solo 3 beats and scroll through Insta to see what rappers and hip hop content is on rn. Then I go to Saba's insta. I heard his Bucket List ... read more

If only more rappers would understand 10 songs for an album is preferred as opposed to the bloated, twice-as-long albums like Views and Culture II.

Oh my goodness, I finally listened to an album. Was about to turn to a singles account lmao.
Honestly, the concept of the album with Saba doing his own thing along with including John Walt's tragedy throughout the album is done really well. I'm a sucker for narrative rap tracks and this one takes the grey cake (although I got a little lost halfway during KING).

Also Chance sounds boring af on LOGOUT
