If only more rappers would understand 10 songs for an album is preferred as opposed to the bloated, twice-as-long albums like Views and Culture II.

If you like Drake and chance the rapper you'll like this continuation of shit hiphop albums getting overrated by everyone.

So damn boring.

Saba tells a personal tale of his battles with depression, anxiety, and coping with the loss of a major influence in his life. Almost every tracks a standout and it's honestly one of the most compelling and emotional projects of 2018

How am I listening to the same album as everyone else who is praising this? Production is beyond boring. There is next to 0 innovation in this album. It fell into background noise so fast. The lyrics are really uninteresting. I listen to this and think “I’m never gonna remember this thing in an hour from now.”

Uninspiring and unambitious. There were a few pretty pretty moments, but everything here just screams mediocre. It’s like an album for people who are desperate ... read more

I expected nothing from this record and while that may end up playing a role in my overall opinion, I genuinely think this is a great record: it's like a hip-hop A Crow Looked At Me in the best possible way.

Omg this is good. The more I listen to it, the more I pick up on it that I like. I'd be hard-pressed to pick out the weakest track. Introspective lyrics that make me feel like I know the man personally. He has a lot to say and an interesting method of delivering, much like the Chi-town guys he runs with.

Yes, he does rhyme a Pokemon with an ailing genital on here. I hope that's not the one thing this project is remembered for.

one of the more interesting releases this year with the chigago rapper releasing a pretty personal project while some tracks can please sonically as well as satisfies saba's request for getting personal some are just off-beat and not pleasant
EDIT: As time passes this project grows on me more and more , gotta say massive kudos to Saba

Touching and catchy album with a plethora of great songs,

BEST TRACKS: PROM / KING, LOGOUT, CALLIGRAPHY.

WORST TRACK: BROKEN GIRLS

A beautifully intimate & subdued release by Saba. This album is bleak, literally stripped of color. It sets us up in a lens adjacent to his subconscious, reminiscent of a diary. Saba provides some impressive songwriting detailing upon various altercations, while most prevalent, his guilt-ridden condolence towards his cousin Walt. Saba's storytelling prowess through the entire album is emotionally compelling to sit through, but suffers some slight inconsistencies & relatively weak hooks ... read more

Amazing piece of work, every song fills the purpose of telling different stories while driving the main narrative, the death of Saba's best friend and cousin, Walter. Really hard to find anything negative to say

This album got me through my last semester of college and means a lot to me so maybe I'm biased. But honestly, after listening to this over and over so many times, I can easily say that this is one of my favorite albums ever. I can see that maybe it's not for everyone, but it's got such a vibe to it that I just couldn't ignore. I personally really liked every song except FIGHTER, but that wasn't even a bad song.

BROKEN GIRLS 4.5
LIFE 5/5

just quickly going through and giving ratings to my favorite rap records of the year

I love the sonic palette that Saba creates here, as opposed to his sporadic Bucket List project, the songs here seem focused, potent and existing in the same somber universe, falling in line to personify the melancholy, and different enough that it's creative and varying song structures and ideas really pop to the attentive listener. Honestly, people will be upset at this that aren't willing to give it the ... read more

VERDICT: A drowsy produced album compliments his cadence and the messages portrayed, oh and then there's LIFE which is an absolute banger

Saba proves to us that rap isn't totally dead. The production isn't the greatest but he manages to narrate his hardships in a well thought out album. MY GOD the switch up in PROM/KING

Digging it. Well constructed tracks with great storytelling throughout. A bit slow to get into for the first few songs which was its biggest flaw, but became thoroughly enjoyable. One of the best Hip Hop album I've heard in a long time, and will probably be replaying this in the future.

The worst places, produce the most interesting of souls, Chicago continues to develop some of the most melancholic-ly rich albums, and Saba follows in line, he may not be in the front of the line but is slowly progressing.

Saba comes off as a gentle soul here, made hard by an environment where one cannot really be anything related to gentle. Because of this, the album feels a bit lost, insecure and yet latched onto being "hard"(this is best shown on "FIGHTER" , probably my ... read more

The production alone on this album would deserve a 90-100 rating however there is one glaring flaw with this album and its Saba himself. He hasn't changed as an artist since his last album. His rapping is skillful yes but his voice and delivery doesn't change much and some lines throughout the album come off as corny and lazy. Overall, its a fun listen however, where artists like Noname and Smino keep their delivery and flow as unpredictable as their production, Saba is still learning. ... read more

•Saba releases Care For Me as a follow up to his 2016 Bucket List Project.
•The production on this isn’t anything too crazy but it’s decent and Saba compliments it nicely.
•A few features on this project and most of them are only in a small portion of each song making most of this project just Saba. The big name feature on this comes from Chance the Rapper.
•Saba does a good job of sticking to a theme on this and proves there’s purpose and layers to what ... read more

Care for Me isn't as compelling or moving as I want it to be. The jazz touches are really tasteful and a lot of the writing is painstaking and genuinely well done. Saba as a rapper, though, just doesn't inspire much in me. Some tracks also come across as very unessential. You can tell the emotional core of the album only lies in a few specific tracks. I can certainly appreciate and respect all that Saba has been through and all of the really good moments here, but it doesn't quite manifest into ... read more

This listen is an experience and if you like rap, this is for you. It's a sad album when you read into it and listen to the lyrics but on many of these tracks the flows switch a fair amount and are fast, so there are sort of "bangers" on here but I like to relax and listen to the amazing storytelling that we haven't heard many times this year, like its phenomenal how he tells this cohesive story throughout the songs and the albums. HEAVEN ALL AROUND ME is a such a good concept ... read more

Super solid album from a great up in coming artist. I personally think the lyrics are super phenomenal in this album and production is pretty solid. That said if you're not a fan of Chance, Noname or that style of flow you probably wont enjoy this album; not very beat heavy more about the flow itself. Some songs are kind of forgettable and corny at times but when this album hits it hits hard. Emotional and engrossing storytelling are demonstrated in tracks like Fighter (expect for the corny ... read more

Care For Me is one of the most poignant rap albums of the last few years. Saba evokes nearly every emotion on this album, whether it's sadness (BUSY/SIRENS), despair (LIFE), or nostalgia (PROM/KING). The sound and vibe that Saba creates on this record is unlike anything his young contemporaries have created. While this record puts Saba on the map, it'll be tough for him to make another record this deep and emotionally triggering.

Saba brings us a collection of personal and very well performed story songs that paint a relatable picture of the hardships of youth

Sick vibe. Saba surely comes to the table with an interesting perspective and versatile flow, but almost all of the beats lack stand out character. I love listening to this album as background music to set a mood. In general I love jazzy-horn filled hip hop loops and this album is easily one of the best at nailing that criteria, but sometimes instrumentals in that genre (jazz-rap/acid jazz?) are so formulaic in composition that it's hard not to think that i'd any random assortment of slowly ... read more
