The excellent, cathartic Kendrick Lamar EP didn’t get the major attention it deserved, but it restored his reputation, and the single “She Needs Me” fomented enough of an underground buzz that there was real expectation surrounding his next project.
At its best this is genuinely damn near up to par with his best material. Seriously Celebration, P&P, She Needs Me, I Am, etc... are truly excellent and even at its weakest it's still solid. Well produced (though the beat on Thanksgiving is kinda messy), tasteful, has moments of consciousness and bragadocio that's well balanced, and it's fun!
This was the first glimpse at the brilliance to come and for that I applaud him. High 70

I was the world’s biggest Kendrick Lamar fan, i could confidently say I had listened to every single thing he had ever made, and somehow I completely had no idea this mixtape (yeah not an ep, lol) even existed. Yeah, this mixtape is pretty solid, it dips in quality in the 2nd half, though. Definitely an upgrade to Overly Dedicated.
