Drowned in Sound

Nash hasn't just tried to continue her legacy as one of the UK's most iconic, honest and innovative pop sensations… she has completely rewritten it.

80
DIY

‘Yesterday Was Forever’ comes eleven years in for Kate, but it’s an album as courageous and fun as any debut.

80
musicOMH

Yesterday Was Forever provides plenty of evidence that she can still hit top form when she wants to.

75
Northern Transmissions

Much of the album’s production leaves a hard disconnect with her emotional writing that drags much of the opening half of the record down. With her brilliant genre-blending and a much tighter second half however, Nash shows why she’s been such a cult favourite.

75
The Line of Best Fit

At its best the record is a playful, pulse-raising thrill-ride; and you can see that musical dexterity on display here will be staggeringly impressive or bewilderingly inconsistent, depending on your taste.

70
Exclaim!

The crowdfunded LP finds Nash using her trademark honesty and pop sensibilities to create a melding of genres that express who she is today, ten years after the breakout success of her debut, Made of Bricks.

66
Paste

At 14 tracks, it feels pretty indulgent—only amplifying the fact that excluding a few choice cuts, these songs aren’t really all that good.

60
NME

With that ‘straight-to-fan’ mentality and the fact that she approached writing as if it were a “teenage diary”, the album is confessional, sprawling, and a little indulgent.

45
Under The Radar

These pleasant tunes don't have enough sharp dynamics to give them an edge and so end up as mostly fluff without so much substance.

40
The Independent

Her sincere approach to themes such as mental health or self-image are welcome, but the sonic mess littered through Yesterday Was Forever piles up like an impenetrable wall, and it will take a strong-willed fan to knock it down.

40
The Guardian

It’s a more nebulous strain of nostalgia that means her songs feel slightly stale, with tunes either recalling twee noughties indie or chart pop from half a decade ago.

40
Spectrum Culture

Yesterday Was Forever is a snapshot of an artist in crisis, unsure of where to go next or how to find new ways to present old feelings.

Like in her last album, "Girl Talk", Kate had used the method of crowd-funding to raise money to pay the production of the this new album and it seems that it's the best way to her to do the sound she wants on her albuns since she has became an independent artist. Well, on the sound of the previous album, she had used a lot of rock and punk influences, addressing the riot grrrl movement (that she says helped her to empower herself and build up her self esteem). On "Yesterday Was ... read more

Não era fã da Kate, nem a conhecia bem, mas depois deste álbum com certeza vou acompanhar, sonoridade e sotaque me lembra muito Lily Allen, duas fadas britânicas.

Kate Nash has a ferocious, genuine side to herself that comes out regularly throughout her latest release. Yesterday Was Forever is a pop-centric indie rock album that demonstrates an outspoken side life. To the quirky textures in production she, to the cheeky lyrics, despite the safe landing spaces, as far as experimentation is concerned, this album seems to have, there's a lot to enjoy off here.
