The main appeal of Let's Get It Started is simply that it's well-produced, funky, and danceable, regardless of the quality of the raps.
Those first 60,000 or subsequent three million who bought the re-release were clearly mesmerized either by the occasionally dope beats or Hammer’s parachute pants. 20 years later neither one is working for me.
Day three of my Hammerthon brings me to his second album. I checked out his third and fourth album during the previous days as I complete looking through his discography, and while they are very similar, here Hammer sounds quite different. The energy and almost anger in the vocals is more reminiscent of other '80s rap staples like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys with even some similar bars present. After all the pain and suffering that I experienced from listening to MC Hammer's atrocious 2000s album run, I'm glad to end my big Hammer journey with his earliest projects. Let's Get It Started is the first big label release by MC Hammer, though not really the one that would put him in the map.
