I had very little faith in even Blakey keeping a seven-minute-long drum solo captivating in any way, but with the help of an actual motif and very good dynamics, he somehow manages to achieve a sort of primal celebration. Usually it’d take me less than a minute of a drum solo to get bored and feel like the mood of a track has been irreparably ruined, but nah this one’s good. About as good as you can get within the limitations.
