You might think the remarkably similar and undeniably terrible Black Lips/GZA collaborations from earlier this year would have made everyone involved in the BlakRoc project-- Black Keys plus hip-hop artists, to be reductive-- re-think their decision. But by being so blatant about what it did wrong-- combining notoriously sloppy and notoriously methodical artists-- the Lips and GZA may have actually have provided an unintentional boost.
Pretty fire verses and rap performances on top of some of Black Keys most funky and thrilling instrumentals ever
It kinda loses steam in the second half, and the more subpar tracks on here do border on being straight up trash (like the intro track that's not even available on Spotify), but the songs that slap, do slap, and they present a lot of passion and charisma from whatever artist is featuring them
Not a perfect album for sure, but pretty solid and fun one overall imo
The black keys are my sixth favourite artist/band of all time and when I found out that there’s an album that combines hip hop and the black keys, I freaked out.
This album went completely under my radar. Somehow the reason I found this album was because NOE sounds exactly like Jay-Z and when I heard Done Did It in Saints Row The Third, I looked up this song to find that it wasn’t even Jay-Z and instead a side project from the black keys.
