GENERIC SOUND OF TODAY MUSIC.

she is just an one-hit-wonder singer. Why do people keep waiting for her to bring great music?

I mean, props to her for never making the same record twice and proving a decent amount of versatility across four records, but this is easily her least interesting and most derivative incarnation yet. Her first two records really captivated me during my freshman year of college, and even I Never Learn had its share of high points (namely the singles), but this record just sounds like Li impersonating Halsey impersonating Lorde. Hyper-rhythmic vocal lines you've already heard from all your ... read more

So sad not so sexy, the new album of Lykke Li is a huge failure (and personal disappoint). The beats are overused as hell, the lyrics are extremely uninspired and the music itself feels so bland. It even doesn't seem that it's a more safer direction of a good artist, it's a generic album in the strict term. I never learn already took safer direction but succeeded to give emotions.

Even the cover is really not good (powerpoint + photo filter + edgy photos + word writing + any kind of ... read more

TRAP BEATS

Oof, this is pretty rough. Lykke Li’s brand of off-kilter power ballads has made her a quite popular and likable indie pop star, with personality and uniqueness to spare. Which makes it all the more disappointing to watch Lykke Li try to stuff her talents into ill-fitting, hyper-generic trap beats. I truly cannot understand why she thought this was a good idea; even if “so sad so sexy” succeeds commercially, it is instantly dated. Pure pop was never much of a stretch for Lykke ... read more

So sad by nature and so sexy by force, Lykke Li rediscovers the trendy, pop world with an album that tries so hard to convince us, vainly, that it's really her in a hostile environment.

not so sad, not so sexy...mostly boring.

After a few albums of crafting her sound and becoming one of the most passionate and well rounded voices in Indie-Pop, Lykke Li proceeds to throw it all out of the window. Very quickly. This is barely an Indie Pop album, this sounds like any Pop songstress trying to go for a more nocturnal sounding album and bringing in elements of Trap. No, it's not pretty, it's actually the worst album I've heard this year. Lykke's songwriting is laughable, sounding like a child wrote half of these songs. ... read more

No. Just no. I respect artists who evolve but you can't excuse a bad album if it's bad. This just reeks of emulation rather than creativity. Lykke Li, you can be so much better than this.

Nah sorry this sounds like any indie-pop musician's 2015 attempt to incorporate trap R&B influence, and its filled with every trope and cliche in the book. Also, the Amine feature definitely doesn't help your cause desperately trying to sound authentic.

A strange and maybe even unnecessary turn for Lykke Li, as she remodels her sound into pop and rnb form. The singer's lyrics are sad and trembling to say the least, but the pop influences just seem to do little to bring it out. Sad, sexy, yet mostly disappointing.

Favorite Tracks: Jaguars in the Air.

Well, this was a disappointment. I guess I should've seen it coming after listening to the singles cause there was nothing special about them but still... Some of the lyrics are so ridiculous and underwhelming and the production is so generic that it makes you roll your eyes almost throughout the whole album. Even her voice is not... the best of her? Also I just can't with "jaguars in the air" & "bad woman"

É um bom álbum, mas acho que se fosse um EP com 5 ou 6 músicas seria melhor. Acho Hard Rain bem fraca pra ser a faixa que abre o álbum, não que ela seja ruim, só acho fraca.

The album is lyrically impeccable but each track seems to miss something - and the predictable trap beats don't help at all

Actually two weeks ago I heard some new songs from her live and I was still excited about her new album. There are some songs (like the same title track "so sad so sexy") that sounds really good in the live session. However, the studio version seems a little bit weak and cannot stand out her vocal strength that once highlighted in her last 2 albums... The hip-pop influenced beats and dark-pop vibe lack her uniqueness, which seems replaceable and impersonal..

a little disappointed with this album, not for the mainstream sound, but for having so many fillers. Production has left a lot to be desired, some songs are good but do not save this album.

bad experience/ she can do much better/ it’s not terrible album but it very disappoints especially when you know Lykke as such a great songwriter and composer/ this album is one big cliche

Final thoughts: -1
my problem with Lykke Li in the past was mainly concerned about her delivering - it was always a bit overdramatic. that problem stays here as well, but underwritten lyrics and uninspired musical style make this record my least favorite of hers until now.

Lykke has taken the step of becoming more commercially viable as an artist, its a step most casual listeners have been waiting for and longtime fans have been dreading: in the end however it is the production-value which makes this fall apart, and Lykke Li's vocals which string the album back together.

Day 0-7 of listening:
"hard rain", immediately hits you with the textural decision of having electronics eating at the Lykke Li soundscape.

Lykke Li has crafted her least Lykke Li-like record to date, whilst at the same time creating something that is a perfect example of her artistry.

it's hard to judge this album in the vein of her first three records since this feels like a complete departure from the doe-eyed love-stricken ballads and epics she made herself known for. so sad doesn't feel like a complete commitment to the more hip-hop infused sound, with production choices and melodies that feel half-baked and repetitive. there's traces of the great album that it could've been on songs like 'hard rain', 'last piece' and 'utopia', but for now i'll settle with a good one.

Very different from her last releases, So Sad So Sexy is nothingness and everything in one.

We've been waiting for this album since the first single. Lykke Li showed how good she is with hiphop-pop, with her singles released before the album. 'so sad so sexy' has melancholic lyrics and different sound for each song. You find yourself 'sadly dancing' and at least 6 songs on the album are very fluent, and even this explains that the album is over and over the middle.

so sad so sexy isn't original, isn't perfect, far away to be the album of the year but at least is danceful and not being deeply emotional as should be, keeps delivering a feeling of compatibility with emotions sang.

Review: The album is a beautifully constructed emotional building, where the artist really puts all her feelings on the album, I find it incredible how she chose to express her feelings in the songs (especially in "bad woman" and "So sad so sexy"). , an album well built and with a beautiful emotional charge.

Lykke Li has spend the last years with some interesting projects, she appeared in the 2017's Terrence Malick movie "Song to Song" and started a new supergroup called Liv which she described as "the love child of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac". All this points that she will follow her melancoly orchestral art pop and with "so sad so sexy" she is still melancoly but now instead of using the orchestral-pop of her previous albuns, she jumped in a very distinct sound, she ... read more

My favorite Lykke Li album. I like her approach with sadness on this. Something about the repetition, the trap production and the distorted vocals just work so well to me and give off this easy going heartbreak. I get why it would get lashed though since compared to her older stuff it's not as deep or raw. The album is also really cohesive and progresses nicely. The initial songs on struggling with a failing relationships to going through the break up and finally accepting the results of the ... read more

Surprised to see this with such a low rating. I enjoyed it alot.
I guess with it being so different from her other albums I guess I can understand why though.
I skip maybe 2 tracks out of the whole effort and thats hard to find.
