The Guardian

Balvin often deploys a smoother kind of reggaeton with hints of trap and dancehall; in Latin America, reggaeton is still thought of as repetitive and only suitable for dancefloors, but he explores its wider potential.

AllMusic

Vibras is more consistent and varied than Energia. Its songwriting, performances, and production are truly inspired, making for an utterly compelling listen and one of the essential soundtracks of summer.

Pitchfork

The reggaetonero’s latest sets him up for even more global success. Its infectious vibe is draped in dancehall with a dash of trap production and nods to salsa, bachata, and Afrobeat.

Rolling Stone

Vibras, Balvin's fifth studio LP, happens to be a pan-Latin masterstroke of its own, a set of primo Spanish-language pop with vibe deep enough to make it universal.

After listening to this and actually not hating it as much as I thought I would, I still wouldn't ever go back to it. I despise reggaeton, and albums like these aren't really helping. Mi Gente is still horrendous.

I never thought i would dig into a J Balvin album, but Vibras is a good album with a lot of addictive songs and other songs that makes the reggaeton wave really interesting sometimes.

Favs: Vibras, Mi Gente, Ahora, Brillo, En Mí, Tu verdad and Dónde estarás.

2018 AOTY #32

This is pop rap done right. Pulling influences from throughout the western hemisphere (dancehall, trap, latin pop, reggaeton, R&B...), J Balvin has made a massive splash with this international breakthrough of an album. Vibras is perfectly named, as Balvin and his collaborators create 45 minutes of humid, sexy, crepuscular vibes. It just makes me want to find an outdoor party somewhere and dance until my heart explodes. I really dig Balvin as a vocalist too; on most of these ... read more
