Inconsistent tracklist but a decent listen nonetheless for the sake of genre exploration. I don't know anything about the whole Mod Revival scene, but to me, it just sounds like a lightweight version of the newly established punk genre. Aside from how well written the lyrics can be, I could honestly take it or leave it. Thick As Thieves, Burning Sky, and The Eton Rifles are my highlights.
A very fun album. A lot more enjoyable for me than All Mod cons. A girl on the phone is a fantastic opener which engages you with the album straight away. Some of the songs may lack substance but overall it’s a good listen
'Setting Sons' (geddit) is another step up from 'All Mod Cons' with the pop appeal of the band ramped up to the maximum without losing all the bite from Weller's writing and singing. 'Girl on the Phone' is by far the most immediate and engaging opener from the band so far in their career and 'Thick as Thieves' barely drops the momentum.

Pretty great listen, not their most innovative album but very strong nonetheless. Favourite was The Eton Rifles
don't get me wrong I enjoy nearly every song here, but they had some tracks they chose not to add (going underground, when you're young, the butterfly collector, strange town...) and those songs are some of their best work
