I wonder when Ross served as a correctional officer for 18 months from December 1995 to June 1997, if it felt like it was longer than 18 months. Cause he sure knows how to make 4-5 minutes sound longer then 4-5 minutes. Be it underwhelming hooks or production that reeks of late 00's pop rap, Ross only occasionally manages something cohesive on Deeper Than Rap. If anything, I'll give it credit for ending strong with the Valley Of Death + In Cold Blood back-to-back.
This record was the beginning of the Rozay we know today. Stellar beats and great performances/features. Highly recommend this album.
I was enjoying it a lot at first with songs like Mafia Music, Magnificent, and Usual Suspects, but after that it takes a dip in consistency. I loved the production and Ross' delivery is impressive throughout. The choruses and lyrics are rough as hell though. Ending two songs was a great end off.
