"dictator" not only carries the torch for the bright burning fire that was system of a down, but it also serves as a neat follow-up to the first scars on broadway release. while their debut album felt more like it's own thing, this album feels significantly more like it could be a b-side to "mezmerize" or "hypnotize". to put it bluntly, it simply isn't as good an album as those two, but diehard soad fans will probably enjoy this. it's a good album.

It's a bit of an improvement on their self titled with more memorable moments and hooks but it still falls into the trappings of feeling like milktoast SOAD. It's still a great record, Daron is still an excellent vocalist and songwriter all these years later andI really like the dry, barebones production and the rare use of synths adds so much needed colour.

This is a good album. I enjoyed the first album more, but not terrible. Angry Guru has some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard though. Vocals are kinda weak as well.
Favorites: Lives, Dictator, Talkin Shit, Assimilate
Least: Angry Guru
Above average, but not good in my opinion. I really like Guns Are Loaded, Lives and Talkin Shit but the rest is just filler.
