Despite popular music trends, Halestorm continue to wave the flag for hard rock with pride and power.
Vicious doesn't deviate too much from the stock hedonism of its predecessor -- the holy hard rock trinity of sex, drugs, and rock & roll is alive and well -- but it connects on such a visceral and familiar level that listeners will likely be unable to resist the urge to turn things up to 11.
It's a very catchy collection of hard rock/pop metal songs. They don't stray far from the path they've blazed on previous albums, but it's a formula that has worked extremely well for them.
"Black Vultures" gets smthe record started, good driving power chords open the groove up. The verses and cadence are solid, I wish the chorus was heavier though, a bit more of a blend of hard and classic rock. Decent opener though.
"Skulls" begins with a much poppier and sassy vocal cadence but I like the instrumentation, nice little bass groove, reminds me a little of Tool's debut. Good heavy sound, this one is fun and probably gets better with more exposure. ... read more
Definitely a huge step up from the last record, that’s for sure, but still not that good.
fav tracks: painkiller, skulls
least fav tracks: uncomfortable, conflicted, heart of Novocain
Lzzy Hale acts like a hipster sex object. I prefer Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Sarah McLachlan, and other female rockers. Just not Lzzy Hale. Because her music is watered down and infused with sex appeal more than things that challenge my mind.
Definitely heavier than last attempt, but not as pleasant as classic hard rock.

A decent "Rock" album. Honestly, that is about how strong I feel about this.
Fav Track : Black Vultures
Least Fav Track : Heart Of Novocaine
In line with what Halestorm knows how to do: big hard rock pieces and ballads. Not bad but no surprises either.
