Gate of Grief easily fulfills the promise of White Ring's earlier efforts.

Tiny Mix Tapes

This context is crucial in framing White Ring’s reemergence and is exaggerated by the band’s meager output. Despite their influence in the genre, the band only released an EP and an assortment of other tracks during witch house’s heydey. This makes Gate of Grief not only White Ring’s most substantial release, but also their full-length debut.

The Line of Best Fit

At 14 tracks long, Gate Of Grief is a long listen and, in truth, a lot of it sounds the same. But after a while those icy beats and warped vocals begin to sound more like a bony, deathlike finger tapping into our instinctive fears.

You’ll find plenty to enjoy here undoubtedly, but there is still unrealized potential within White Ring’s arsenal waiting to be discovered. Once they find it and those stars align, they have it in them to make something truly terrifying.
Spectrum Culture

Divorced from the online bullshit surrounding the music, Gate of Grief lets witch house stand totally free of context — as pure music—for perhaps the first time in its history. And it’s good stuff.

Loud and Quiet
While the fixation with time serves it conceptually, the sonic disconnect that pervades the uneven and drawn-out ‘Gate of Grief’ can be traced back to the time it took for it to see the light of day. With it, one can’t help but feel that the crystallised explorations of loss on ‘Black Earth…’ were very much of their time.
An interesting survey of Electronic Music and Trap with Witch House goggles on. But I probably won't listen again
