AllMusic
Although Back to Black does see her deserting jazz and wholly embracing contemporary R&B, all the best parts of her musical character emerge intact, and actually, are all the better for the transformation from jazz vocalist to soul siren.

There's something beguilingly perverse about the incongruity between Winehouse's trifling lyrical concerns and Back To Black's wall-of-sound richness.

Entertainment Weekly
Itโ€™s precisely Winehouseโ€™s lyrics โ€” smartass, aching, flirty, and often straight-up nasty โ€” that raise this expertly crafted set into the realm of true, of-the-minute originality.

Back To Black is a fully-fledged classic that should have been ringing in your ears for roughly eight months by now, and if not, well, get on it.

Starting with the pungent single Rehab, everything is in its right place: the exuberant neo-Motown swing ... the rich, sinewy vocals ... and the thoroughly modern songwriting.

"Every bad situation is a blues song waiting to happen." - Amy Winehouse, 2006

So last night I watched the 2015 documentary, Amy. Since I've been a fan of Amy Winehouse for a while I thought it would be interesting to know more about the woman behind the gorgeous voice, and boy it was heartbreaking, really heartbreaking. Dealing with addiction to both drugs & alcohol, eating disorders & depression, Amy was a tortured soul who needed emotional support but barely got it. By the ... read more

i've loved Rehab for a few years now, so i was really excited going into this album. and amy did not disappoint! the soul funk sound to this album is really fun to listen to, combined with her distinctive vocals makes for a great fun listen. the title track is also a fantastic song, the dark sound to it matches perfectly with everything and everything is perfect about it and mmmm. the tracks ... read more

I've had two stars off every single one of these tracks for the piss-poor production job that Mark Ronson allowed to take place. It's an absolutely unlistenable mix, and on every format: CD, vinyl, digital, deluxe CD, whatever. Disappointing because the music was (I imagine) beautiful on tape, but here we are: 16 years after the fact - 11 years after Winehouse's death - and a decent remix has yet to be done (or even seriously suggested). Genuinely, hands-down: one of the worst-sounding LPs to ... read more

Amy is why we have Adele and Lana Del Ray in the world, and I couldn’t be happier without these women changing my life. One of the best albums of the 2000’s
