There's something beguilingly perverse about the incongruity between Winehouse's trifling lyrical concerns and Back To Black's wall-of-sound richness.

"Every bad situation is a blues song waiting to happen." - Amy Winehouse, 2006

So last night I watched the 2015 documentary, Amy. Since I've been a fan of Amy Winehouse for a while I thought it would be interesting to know more about the woman behind the gorgeous voice, and boy it was heartbreaking, really heartbreaking. Dealing with addiction to both drugs & alcohol, eating disorders & depression, Amy was a tortured soul who needed emotional support but barely got it. By the ... read more

i've loved Rehab for a few years now, so i was really excited going into this album. and amy did not disappoint! the soul funk sound to this album is really fun to listen to, combined with her distinctive vocals makes for a great fun listen. the title track is also a fantastic song, the dark sound to it matches perfectly with everything and everything is perfect about it and mmmm. the tracks ... read more
God, this is such a power house. Every single song on here is like getting hit by a freight train at full force. You can't hear something like Back to Black and not feel like a wrecking ball of pure musical power raps you against a brick wall.

There's some parts where it can get awkward, and let's not kid ourselves. Amy stole this voice from Nina Simone. It's like the exact same.

But like, god. I just have to give it a high score out of pure mesmerization. Not a personal favorite, but ... read more
Oh this album.. I had never fully listened to this thing before but hits like Rehab, Back To Black, Teards Dry on Their Own and You Know I'm No Good just brought back so many memories. Memories of a time when things were simple, I was 7 years old when this album was released and you know, those were some awesome times. I remember going out with my parents and in the radio all you could hear was her beautiful voice, she was enormous at that time! No stressful fucking adult life as well, a ... read more
One of the most beautiful voices of the 2000s, or to ever do it, this album is very consistent, Back to Black and He Can Only Hold Her are two absolute masterpieces while the rest isn't at that level it still manages to be great. You Know I'm No Good, Rehab, Tears Dry On Their Own and Some Unholy War are other examples of brilliant songwriting, beautiful vocals. The only reason this only got a 8/10(and not 9-10) is because of the atrocity that is the the last track, like i said in my Dua Lipa ... read more
