There's something beguilingly perverse about the incongruity between Winehouse's trifling lyrical concerns and Back To Black's wall-of-sound richness.

God, this is such a power house. Every single song on here is like getting hit by a freight train at full force. You can't hear something like Back to Black and not feel like a wrecking ball of pure musical power raps you against a brick wall.

There's some parts where it can get awkward, and let's not kid ourselves. Amy stole this voice from Nina Simone. It's like the exact same.

But like, god. I just have to give it a high score out of pure mesmerization. Not a personal favorite, but ... read more
Oh this album.. I had never fully listened to this thing before but hits like Rehab, Back To Black, Teards Dry on Their Own and You Know I'm No Good just brought back so many memories. Memories of a time when things were simple, I was 7 years old when this album was released and you know, those were some awesome times. one of the most beautiful voices of the 2000s, or to ever do it, this album is very consistent, back to black and he can only hold her are two absolute masterpieces while the rest isn't at that level it still manages to be great. you know i'm no good, rehab, tears dry on their own and some unholy war are other examples of brilliant songwriting, beautiful vocals. the only reason this only got a 7/10 is because of the atrocity that is the the last track, like i said in my suavities lipa review, ... read more
Back to Black is amazing because immediately Amy wows with her presence on the record. She’s fierce and dominates with her powerful voice (inspired most likely by Nina Simone).

I love the very bluesy style of the record and the production is fantastic with the instrumentation being incredible and helping build Amy’s presence.

With this strong presence there also comes a lot of vulnerabilities in the lyrics with her dealing with substance abuse and troubling men.

Throwback sound design, warming and richfully textured without overdoing it.
Amy still sounds unique in her tone and in the delivery of very genuine and humourous lyrics.
I personnaly prefer the more somber cuts, instrumentally and thematically. It is a very soulful project, very easy to lounge to.
