Casual Acquaintances is a bit of a step down from the Growler’s work prior to this and goes back to the band’s more acoustic folk surf rock sound. The tracks here feel a lot more lifeless yet somehow it adds a bit to the aesthetic of the album. The writing is decent and in terms of enjoyability, it’s not really up there as significant in their discography. It’s result just an alright album that kind of fills the void for a 2018 album.

This is easily the most inconsistent and sloppy Growlers have ever sounded. There are tracks here where the band shows that they still have a really great, sunny, Surf Rock sound that’s missing right now in Garage Rock. But to call this album a mixed bag would be an understatement. Every time The Growlers dish out a track that sounds halfway decent, they rebound with numerous tracks that bring in elements of Synth pop and who the hell even knows what else.
