I'd like to thank Mitski for putting me onto this fantastic little album a year or so ago, and on this relisten I think i've gained a newfound appreciation for just how many ideas that Spirit of the Beehive are playing with here. It truly feels like an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach to a dreamy lofi indie rock aesthetic, incorporating all of these elements and then some. This is rather jarring as opposed to how their previous records were mind-melting. This just felt messy and not all that fun to listen to.

this is really interesting stuff. Its psychedelic, post-rocky, and indie all at the same time. They do so in a way that doesn't feel jarring or out of place but instead, creating their own sound.

It only takes two minutes for “Hypnic Jerks” to establish its baseline atmosphere; opener “Nail I Couldn’t Bite” transitions from an opaque spoken-word intro into a lethargic, dreamy psychedelic guitar melody.
