Indulgent, polished and deeply personal, Trippie Redd’s debut studio is a course correction. Life’s a Trip succeeds by placing Redd’s narrative at its core and leaning into the inventive melodies that initially put the young rapper on the map.

Trippie’s experimentations and genre-blending on Life’s a Trip has to be appreciated (seeing as it eventually will breed a better-rounded artist).

Life’s a Trip is stuffed with forced production choices that impair Trippie’s over-the-top voice from hitting all of its quirks. It’s clear Trippie needs more time to develop his sound and iron out a direction that doesn’t feel like a detour.

The Needle Drop

Life's a Trip has some surprisingly beautiful highlights, but Trippie Redd's lyrics, song structures, and vocal consistency are still lacking overall.

The dudes got talent but where's the ambition he showed on Dark Knight Dummo?
People love to hate this type of music. Trippie hasn't created anything revolutionary or genre-advancing here and there is the fair share of instrumentals which would benefit from a more compelling soundscape. While not as consistent as ALLTY3, Life’s a trip starts with a streak of 6 great tracks that showcase Trippie’s talent in different factors. “Together” is a calm, refreshing song while “Missing my idols” is much faster and he properly raps on this proving he is versatile as a hip hop artist. “Dark knight dummo” is a straight up banger with haunted production and a decent Travis verse which I didn’t expect. [84.64] Trippie Redd's first studio album, not a mixtape. I'm not sure if it is due to adding the album to my playlist at the time, and that I just grew to like the songs, but although it is just simple crooning trap music, this is a solid album and maybe the only thing holding it back is Redd himself. Not trying to be crazy or anything, but I do think he can never top this work. Really week opener tho.

Surprisingly cohesive and pleasing to the ears, well at most times.
