let's agree that we'll come back here in a summary of the best albums of the year and this album will be on the lists of those who rated this album poorly
Fucking hell, I've never seen critics so divided. Predictions for me are that the Telegraph are going to give this 5/5, Observer will give 3/5, Pitchfork a 7.1/10
The length is probably a big factor here, you either enjoy the album and love how much you're getting, or don't like the album and hate how much of a slog 80 minutes can be
The only problem with this record in obvious. I've listened to it and it's too damn long. And it suffers for that. A LOT. But if it was just long and all the tracks amazing... ok. But in the last half there are 3 tracks that are flat, pointless, andannoying. I don't see the appeal on them: Shiny Collarbone, What Should I Say, Having no Head. Without those tracks the album would be long, okay. But at least would be near perfect cause the rest is AMAZING, great flow (I didn't spect) great production, songwitting, lyrics, performances... And there are some tracks that have some elements that I don't like like some vocals, or something that don't appeal to me. Tracks like Don?t Worry and Bagsy not in net. Good album that could have been better
pseuds really love telling everyone how much they don't like this band or it's singer don't they?
at every opportunity
it must be exhausting for those who like this band and just enjoy things for what they are
kind of sad
i really don't get the hype, the singles sucked, matty's an idiot, and in the end this band will continue to churn out dull and meaningless pap into oblivion
I just read the The Line of Best Fit's review and it doesn´t make any sense, I mean all the singles until now were good, maybe other parts of album won't be as good but a 3? I think that even Fantano won't give this a 3 but we' ll see.
The Line of Best Fit give a a 3/10, it is strange cause they always give good reviews for The 1975.
Now the sities that gave bad reviews will give good reviews and the sites that gave good reviews, will give bad reviews ?
Huge fan of The 1975 here, but I HATE the massive number of singles being released for this thing. Even if there are no interludes (which I doubt), there will be 8 songs out when "Guys" gets released within a day. That's just a monumental amount of music released as singles, regardless if there are 22 songs on the entire thing.
look, either you take 4 minutes to prepare popcorn and watch a nightmare before christmas, or you take that exact amount of time to listen to this album. im doing the 1st one.
"the album has a style similar to English alternative hip hop music group the Streets and British electronic musician Burial. In a separate interview, he added that the record has "one of my best lyrics ever."". I think it sounds a bit pretensious but I'm interested to hear this album.
Are there any sings of how long this album gonna be?
I hope that there will be a healthy amount of skits and this record doesn't end up being 2 fucking hours looooong.
Despite the interesting choice of album cover, this is my most anticipated release of 2020. All five (so far) singles have been excellent and the band's best music yet in my opinion.
I like the new cover a lot more to be honest! Fits better with A Brief Inquiry's cover being similarly empty. Looks better though, ABIIOR's cover was pretty bad. At least this one doesn't have the stupid dots everywhere making it look cluttered
I just feel like their overall theme on an album is quite messy. I understand they want to show all of the influences they have but maybe stick to one kind of style and make it your own? The fact that People and birthday song can exist in the same album is baffling tbh.
A definite 90s/00s revival vibe to this one. People= post-hardcore, Frail State of Mind with its dubstep sound, You and Me Together Song with a kinda pop-punk/alternative feel and The Birthday Party radiates Brit-pop
Listened to the two as-yet unreleased songs they played on tour today. One was like Tears For Fears with saxophone in it and the other made me cry. Gonna be a strong album.
No matter how good this album will be and no matter how good the critic reviews will be, people will still hate on this and it won´t have more than 70 as user rating. People will also say that they are doing a ripoff of OK Computer but in 2020.
I mean, I never liked them and always considered them as this teenage boy band and then I listened to A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and it was a big surprise, and from the singles of their next album, it looks promising.
With the release of first single "People," I can say I am fully expecting this album to be another post-modern classic of eclecticism and wit. Their first album was alright, but my god have they been on a roll ever since that. I really do think they are rising to David Bowie levels of mastery and fun, even if they can never and will never affect the greater culture the way he did. The same spirit of theatrics and utter musical delight as I hear in Bowie's records has come through on both "I Like it When You Sleep" and "A Brief Inquiry," and I can't flipping wait for "Notes." Here's hoping they don't massively drop the ball.
