Am I allowed to give 2 100's in a year? Cause like... wow... this is one of the best albums of the decade

I listened to each album from Daughters, and found a lot of quality in their discography... but this brought absolutely everything. I have a feeling that if you just leap into this album, the incredible pacing and atmosphere will instantly grab onto you, and drag you into the abyss that is this beast of an album. Trust me when I say this thing is a journey. It is the first Daughters album ... read more

I don't get it. It definitely had some interesting moments but I don't get the hype. Nothing about it stands out that much for me to greatly appreciate. Sounds like a typical bandcamp noise rock album.

Edit: watch the user score peak after that 10/10 from Fantano. Interesting how large his influence is, especially on this website.

My eardrums have fucking PTSD now.

This is the most brutal, in your face record ive heard all year.

Edit: I have discovered that this record is all more the better when listening to it on Halloween night after watching Hill House

Jesus, this is brutal in all the right ways. It's like Swans on speed.

Varied songs and even manages to have a well-paced arrangement, despite the seemingly relentless energy. Less Sex is a gem of a song and The Lords Song gets me so hyped.

This might be hype BUT HOLY HECK THIS ALBUM IS A 10/10. The atmosphere it builds, it just embraces you. From start to finish you get these different amazing instrumentals, the powerful vocals, the haunting lyrics and just a great experience. It's loud, it's powerful, it's eerie and it's absolutely fantastic.

It's like if Daughters made a bargain bin equivalent of "The Downward Spiral" B-Sides. This record is great musically and artistically like Iredencense from Brockhampton...but like Iredencense this record really lacks anything organic or an identity of it's own. Yeah, it sounds like MC Ride produced it or Swan sped up but what makes Daughters....Daughters? Not to mention I could listen to these other artists and gave a better overall experience. I feel like I've heard these sounds on ... read more

12/30/18, Decent review:
I don't think this album is as mind-blowing as people are hyping it up to be, but it's not that bad. The instrumentation/production on this album is good, but, I just don't find it to be THAT special. I found their previous album to be pretty good, better than this one in my opinion, and a comparison of production may be a pretty big reason why I feel this way. On that album the sounds were a lot crisper, stickier, and layered with complexity, while on here it's a lot ... read more

FUCK

This album is easily Daughters' most cohesive record to date, connecting its ten harrowing tracks with an atmosphere that makes for a single, horrific thread. Whether it's the unsettling build-up and loud, chilling climaxes of something like City Song or just the pure head-spinning forceful terror of The Flammable Man, You Won't Get What You Want rarely gives you a chance to breathe, and when it does, it's only so it can snatch that breath away from you again. The band have come through ... read more

We did it boys, we found the AOTY. We got there in the end.

Edit: Noise is my weakness.

Edit: Just watched the mini-doc on how this was made. Holy shit. The most beautiful works of art come from the strangest of circumstances.

This is nightmarish and exhilarating.
Makes me never want to sleep again but out of excitement.

The word “bland” is certainly not the first adjective that comes to mind when listening to this album. The sonic blanket is fierce, jagged, intense, surprising, and challenging of all expectations. This perception lasted with me for about a minute, and afterwards the music began to unravel and show its true composition. I hate to report that it was sadly nothing much. This is, deceptively, one of the blandest albums I’ve heard all year. Beneath the surface level shock ... read more

Weep woop I was scared to share my opinion on this because everyone was loving it so I gave it an 80 but then I saw people not loving and I was like yayyy I don't have to treat this like album of the year because it's not!!!!!

Gotta love critics. Completely missing it whenever a legit masterpiece is dropped, and then you'll see it in their Top 10 at the end of the year. For shame!

What a fucking come back. Not only is this by far Daughters most experimental and strange record to date, it's also their most menacing, evil and borderline terrifying. It's got a bigger emphasis on mood and atmosphere then other records, making the punches that this album blows much more impactful and hard. And, as per usual, it's an incredibly intricate record that demands full attention to really click with it, with replays almost needed for this perticular record. Yes, it isn't as heavy, ... read more

This album is like if Swans had MC Ride as a producer.

This album was released in the best possible time of the year, creating some of the spoopiest atmosphere i have ever experienced inside an album. I think the creepiest moments of the album were when the vocalist used his soft vocals. That clear voice over the messy and distorted Indusrial Rock instruments created just the sound i think they were going for. Clarity inside chaos is the scariest sound you can create and they nailed ... read more

There's definitely a new idenity of sound that every visceral act is chasing after and Daughters have seemingly chosen the best time to return based off of the unexpected successes of acts like Protomartyr, IDLES, Swans, Death Grips, The Body and even NIN.

This record then a marvel of mood, punishing in a way only a noise album knows how to be. The transition of sound however was so reminiscent of NIN on the opening "City Song" A slow and punishing build with an explosion of sound ... read more

It’s a rarity that an individual like me would come across a recent album release that receives such high praise. That album is “You Won’t Get What You Want” by Daughters, a brutal, ten-ton punishment to the ears heightened by haunting atmosphere, powerful performances, excellent songwriting and a hefty amount of emotion. It’s like the most pleasurable version of Hell, only experienced by ear. THIS is exactly the kind of noise I’ve always wanted to hear! ... read more

Final Edit: This has to get the big 10/10 for me! I have only grown to love this album more and more.

Well- THIS is quite the noise rock record. Wow.

Edit: Finally got enough listens in to get at least an initial score. This album is intense and punishing. I love every song except for Less Sex, which feels like it sticks out a bit but it does provide a necessary breather. The Flammable Man and The Reason They Hate Me are up there for potential favorites. I love how Daughters challenged ... read more

Ok seriously though, this isn't a bad album by any means but i don't understand how anyone who has any experience in the genres this thing exists in can call this a 10/10. This album takes a large portion of its sounds from Deceit by This Heat (which isn't even the superior This Heat album), and seems to mix it with influences from a lot of Noise rock bands like Cop Shoot Cop (who i have been saying for awhile now did this exact album but way better in 1990), Big Black, and Glenn Branca. Holy shit! Okay, let me calm down for a second...

This was my most anticipated album of 2018. After it was announced that Daughters were finally releasing their 4th studio album later this year, I certainly hoped for the band to bring us something new and reinvent their sound. What I got from this record was something I never expected this band had the guts in them to do, and it caught me off guard entirely within the past couple of days. When they released their singles, I was already ... read more

This is... AOTY? How? The first half of the album is a little disparate, the album doesn't really come into quality fruition until Less Sex, and even there the peak is mediocre at best. Maybe I'm too biased against the genre, but this is hardly close to the quality of Denzel Curry, Idles or KSG...

I'll have to come back to this, but as of 10/26/2018 => 28

This had to grow on me a lot. At first I didn't really understand what the hype was about, but eventually it seemed that with every listen, there would be a new track that was my favorite. Now I enjoy pretty much every song on here a ton. Fantastic album.

Favorite Tracks: City Song, Less Sex, and Ocean Song

I was hooked when he started rhythmically gasping for air on the first track

I've never listened to Daughters before. At first I was like "This is like", The Body's new album, Algiers' album from last year or Swans' The Seer. Been there, done that. However, I was oh so terribly wrong. This is like no other album I've ever heard before.

Easy album of the year contender right here! Daughters are back with what is, in my opinion, their magnum opus. It’s definitely their longest album yet, and it only benefits from that. This album is brutally twisted, and apocalyptic! Dark and unhinged. It builds and improves upon the punishing sound that Daughters have made a name for themselves with, in every way imaginable. It’s hellish, yet almost heavenly at the same time, dare I say. That’s not to say this album is ... read more

Every song is very well made, and this album contains some really great musical ideas. However, it's not that consistent in my opinion.

The first 3 tracks are great, reach their effect very well. However, the 4th and 5th track felt way too rushed and tried too hard to scare me. I'm personally more scared when the creepiness is more subtle or sudden, so these two songs kinda missed their effect on me.

But they thankfully calm down after that and manage to scare me again while also adding more ... read more

Ahhhhhh!! Wow what a blood pumping and genuinely disturbing listen! Normally I would never start a review by talking about the last song on the album but since it is my favorite I will start by talking about “Guest House”. This absolute masterpiece of an album closer made me want to punch a hole through a wall thirty seconds into it with its claustrophobic and panicked screams of “How can you not hear me knocking!? Let me in!!!”. This song is seriously the scariest piece ... read more

Amazing

I don't think it's the "best album of the decade"...
But what a beast
Still amazing though, I love that it's shorter than a lot of noise rock albums, making it more digestible.
Wonderful atmosphere.
It's creepy too, it's like these monsters are following every move I make, even knocking on my door to come in.
