Here I sit to write something about Oldfield's long admired LP, 'Tubular Bells'. Frankly, now 44 years old, it remains as one of my favorite crossover recordings which distinctly presents itself as a Progressive Rock hybrid. It is, unfortunately, carrying the label of "New Age" which honestly didn't exist until the 80s, so that’s got to change! I gave this a try since I noticed my friend's dad has this on vinyl, and I wasn't disappointed. The instrumentals are very luscious and rich, and there's never way too much happening at once. Despite the actual sound not being too repetitive I was a bit bored in a few sections, but what I've come to find with progressive rock is that there's never really a whole lot happening in one section of a song, it's all spread thoroughly throughout the length of a track. This album is something to behold. An album so rich and dense, you'll be in awe of how album made by one man can sound like an orchestra. Both filled with childlike innocence and madman fury, it's a stunning record to behold in it's entirety, especially when your under the pretense of it being all by one crazy man.
