In spite of its flaws, Joe's Garage has enough substance to make it one of Zappa's most important '70s works and overall political statements, even if it's not focused enough to rank with his earliest Mothers of Invention masterpieces.


This has got to be the most interesting concept album I've ever listened to. I don't think I've laughed out loud so much while listening to an album and the social commentary is really well done. Like of course Wet T-shirt Contests are dumb but Zappa is able to make them sound even dumber. The instrumentation of this is incredible as well. A personal favourite from Zappa, an amazingly well done and hilarious concept album, can’t go wrong with this one, very recommended.


Zappa's humour is only periodically funny — it was silly during the fist act, but act two was bordering painfully unfunny. When I don't like an albums lyrics, I subconsciously shift my attention towards the instrumentation, and that's where I discover this album's greatest flaw: it is very reliant on you finding the story funny and/or interesting.
