The Line of Best Fit

They’ve struck a fine balance, between wistful, effervescent music that brims with youthful exuberance, and a grounded, more mature, somewhat troubled outlook on life.

DIY

There are still colourful moments in places, but for the most part this is a record of reflection and trying to figure things out.

Under The Radar

Both high tech and lo-fi with a DIY mentality, it's a quirky, somewhat angular dream pop mixture with introspective lyrics.

The album is isolated and unintentionally aimless.

In a frame of pop and experimental sounds, with a beautiful introduction which only works as introduction (I would like listen more than this in the album). Here we have an effort of pop music, experimental and in some points tasty. The band has potential, I hope see an evolution a grown in this

In Bambi, Hippo Campus takes a much more personal, downbeat approach as a change of pace for the followup to the light-hearted, dreamlike debut: Landmark. I respect that they're experimenting more, and I think they pulled it off quite well for the most part.

A few great songs, but most of this is really forgettable. After loving the bright and shimmering brand of indie pop that Hippo Campus doubled down on on their debut, I can't help but be sort of disappointed by this foray into bland synthpop.

Favorite Tracks: Doubt, Passenger, Golden, Anxious

Least Favorite Tracks: Bambi, Bubbles

I heard a couple of Hippo Campus’s songs last year. But this is a whole different beast! This is a move from the Vampire Weekend-esque sound to a synthpop direction. It’s still very hooky and well-written and “Bambi” is a fun record, overall. Sadly, I think the next record will be shot and killed by a bunch of hunters. :(

Fav Tracks: Doubt, Passenger, Golden, Anxious, Honestly, Bambi

Least Fav Tracks: Bubbles

Deep and metaphorical lyrics. I love on how they keep experimenting their music throughout this album. Some songs are bop some are aight. 😄 I listened to this album more than once. I don't seem to feel bored just listening. Haha.

Fave Tracks:

▪ Bubbles
▪ Doubt
