Ultimately many of the skits do actually work without the cartoons that Tenacious D originally set them to, but the lack of more sonic details definitely make them harder to deal with every other track.

Consequence of Sound

Like the study hall scribbles from which Black takes his cues, there’s an aimlessness to Post-Apocalypto that prevents it from developing into much more than that this time around, either as a sporadically funny web series or the frustratingly reined-in soundtrack that accompanies it.

The Independent

Post-Apocalypto is explicitly political in a way never seen before from the band, but by serving as a trot through the musical highlights of the webseries, the album also skips over any firm sense of statement.

Pretty fun for what it is. Not at all what I would want to listen to again.

As a soundtrack to a show, it's fine. It's got all the songs that you may or may not have enjoyed from the show, condensing the shows storyline into a 30 minute rock opera. Might as well have just been Tenacious D The Podcast
Remember when I said "2018: When Jack Black makes better music than Jack White?" well how weird is it they both did a song about a dog this year?
The highlight of this was them parodying the newer music of David Crosby, as a graphic sex anthem on 'Making Love'.

as an album this doesnt work at all though i honestly quite enjoyed the series itself, watching it as it came out on youtube. would recommend listening to these songs through the web toons themself over this album honestly.

Left me thoroughly entertained through but I feel like it could've been slightly better if it wasn't made for a show as you get much more enjoyment after viewing the cartoon visuals that go along with it. Overall pretty good album, worth a listen if you're into comedy/rock.
