As someone with a strange love for Scottish accents (blame Trainspotting) and indie rock, this was very enjoyable.

Even though this record does have some enjoyable and compelling moments lyrically, this definitely doesn't live up to all the hype from critics because there isn't anything special about this that we haven't heard hundreds of times before from other post-punk artists. I still think it's worth a listen, but don't expect this to be a masterpiece.

It took me exactly 3 listens to realize, that The Twilight Sad had just released an absolute banger of a record. "IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME" is filled with electrifying post-punk/indie rock songs which are very well made, completely infectious and have the tendency to sound better with every listen!

I was incredibly pleased with how this LP turned out. The first couple listens were quite enjoyable, but I didn't really feel like I "got" the record yet. Of course ... read more

You heard one post punk, gothic, industrial, Shoegaze, 80's throwback instrumental you heard them all. However, though the general sound is boring, the front mans vocals work well with the limited variation with his dark heart broken lyrics and vocals. Not to say there is bad songs, but goddam this is so overrated, repetitive, and critic bait. I was so bored, jesus. I could see this quite appealing though, just needs to be less redundant and repetitive and start doing more with this powerful ... read more

Nothing is striking me here. It's like a batter hitting nothing but would-be triples if they weren't in the foul ball zone.

Really dug this band when they dropped their debut, but hadn't really been captivated by much from them since. Their rise to prominence happened during a time when you couldn't walk out your front door without running into a band riffing 80's post-punk nostalgia, and they got lost in the wash like so many of their contemporaries. Seeing the scores, I was hoping this would strike the same chord that Fourteen Autumns did all those years ago. Unfortunately, it did not. I would say that only three ... read more

I have the feeling that every emotions the record tries to convey are basically well achieved but in a fairly unoriginal, formulaic manner. Personally I don't dig post-punk very much so I'm definitely not the authority here. But doesn't it sound very basic? I don't know... I'm not as excited about it as the critics.

A typical indie rock post-punk revival. Rather in the Editors spirit than the early Interpol. It is still a nice listening and we can find a few hits here, but counting this as one of the most interesting albums of Jan is really overhasty.

I enjoyed the production and the writing on “IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME”. The melodies and the infectious as hell hooks are also freaking awesome! Other than that, I don’t see myself returning to this album. I still like this album a lot, but as a post-punk album it didn’t blow me away.

I like the concept that this album is based on. I think the vocals are great, some of the hooks are absurdly sticky (10 Good Reasons for Modern Drugs, The Arbor) But I can't really see myself returning. It lacks variety and consistency.

a pretty good album, you can not miss the rhythm you can listen without omitting any song from the list, in my opinion one of the best Rock albums of this decade.

i don't like the production and neither the songwriting nor the performance are worth a listen. way better stuff out there

Twilight Sad's first album in 5 years tackles heartbreak, backed with an excellently produced range of instruments, such as reverb guitars and synthesizers, to give off a gloomy rock aesthetic.

Major opening band vibes coming from this album.

While containing some pleasant gems, It Won/T Be Like This All The Time is just plainly a little too obnoxious. I'm not a fan of the vocals on this thing, and as I'm not really into new wave, this album was not going to be very appealing to me. I like the parts with the darker and chunkier bass, but they are unfortunately always paired with such headache inducing Scottish vocals, which get so tiring after the first two songs! The vocals are just ... read more

What it borrows from its influencers, both old and contemporary, it lavishes in honest, unfiltered emotion and cathartic lyricism.

Whilst being a decent album with some solid lyrics, it just feels so cookie cutter in presentation. This is a standard as Post Punk gets and just feels so uninspired and unoriginal.

It's nothing we haven't heard before, but it's slick and well-produced and the group seem to have more interesting records in their back catalogue so I'll have to probably give those a shot.

They borrow a lot from the feel and sound of The Cure and The Smiths, even The Horrors, to some degree, mostly in positive ways (i.e. they sound inspired by these influences without sounding like a cheap, shallow imitation). I certainly got through the album without trouble, which I don't think was the case with their previous effort. Lots of good things about this work, but unfortunately derivative enough that its not quite a masterpiece or immediate listen for those looking for that AOTY.

It won't be like this all the time is another milestone in the discography of one of Indie-Rock's most skilful and enegmatic bands.

A real step up for them, possibly afforded by new interest and label. Addictive.

Not my cup of tea, but a really solid album. One of 2019’s best so far.

I/m Not Here is a gooooooooood good good good song. However, a lot of the album just kinda blends together sonically. Fortunately, on the production side of things, there really is a lot to appreciate.

I need to wait a while for this to grow on me..but so far....edgy as fuck, but many bombastic and epic moments, the song Videograms is fucking dope.

It Won/T Be Like This All the Time

The music world has been trying to define and clarify the development of rock n' roll in this postmodern age, and it's safe to say that we won't really have an answer while currently living in the era. However, it might be obvious to those who have closely followed rock music today that this latest album from Scottish rock band The Twilight Sad does provide a rather concrete example of it. It shares a lot of similarities with other recent rock escapades that have been lauded by the music nerd ... read more

It's a haunting but beautiful and shivering, powerful and breathtaking listening experience. Right now, The Twilight Sad's new record is hungry to fight for the title of best album of 2019 already - well, its undeniable it has giant tooths.

repetitive and vague lyrics but i really enjoyed the production

Took a few listens to settle on a rating for this (maybe still not settled). It is a grower. Some of the songs have a lot of layers but there are some killer hooks in there.

A super cool album who's sound is incredibly consistent. Biggest complaint is that it's super top heavy, but man is that top killer.

I like a trip through time and The Twilight Sad’s IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME is a great offering of the sounds of 80’s post punk and shoegaze but with the prescience and thrilling vibrance of an album that withstands the test of time.

The singing on this album is passionately expressive and the synth-sounding guitars brightly color in the back. Kind of reminds me of some 80s new wave.

Beautiful darkness in a much used formula but The Twilight Sad makes it flawless, owns it. The emotional vocals and sweeping synths create an atmosphere of hope in a twisted yet very catchy manner but it did take me a couple of listens to full embrace it.
