The Needle Drop

Poppy and her collaborators have gotten a lot better at working her persona into her music and crafting creative pop songs since last year's Poppy.Computer.

Highsnobiety

Am I a Girl? is an enjoyable enough club record, but it fails to add anything new to the conversation.

AllMusic

While it's not as cohesive as Poppy.Computer, Am I a Girl? definitely isn't stale, and it succeeds at expanding Poppy's sound and identity enough to keep fans listening and guessing.

Character gimmicks are never enough to turn dated generic pop music into something interesting. Poppy's vocals are generally boring on this.
