Did the world truly need more white boy funk? Probably not, and while previous Vulfpeck releases may have given the impression that it did, Hill Climber gives the impression that this well has run dry.

It's nice to see the return of It Gets Funkier, but I really don't care for this album otherwise. It's a completely average Vulfpeck release, meaning I find it rather boring personally. This is the lp I've enjoyed the least from them thus far. Still, it does its job well, and there's nothing outright bad about it. It's just not interesting at all, even compared to their previous records and eps.
Sorry Vulf, but this doesn't do it for me (except It Gets Funkier, obviously). Look, If you want to experience this band the right way, do yourself a favor and go see them live. They kill live shows, they're so fun with audience humming and singing along perfectly, and the acoustic drums really do some of their songs good, instead of mediocre and unneeded electric ones.

Favorite Track: It Gets Funkier IV (feat. Louis Cole) [Yay! I love Louis Cole]

Vulfpeck continues to deliver, almost comically, despite being disrespectfully underrated year over year. One of the most uniquely out-there bands carving space so specific they'll wind up standing alone by default. You either live in awe of Vulfpeck or you haven't listened close enough.
