Loud and Quiet
Albums like this send music journalists into a frenzy of right-clicking for synonyms, and, indeed, the thesaurus only has so many entries for space-age, dream-like and cosmic.
Northern Transmissions
While this record doesn’t have so many distinct pop moments, it shines by creating emotion in simple textures and riffs.

It seems that Gardner has found his calling as a psychedelic spaceman, and Somnium is a laid-back delight that's a perfect soundtrack for inner flights and star-filled nights alike.


Somnium's aim and direction are uniquely its own, its conclusion open-ended yet still satisfying.

Somnium is almost New-Agey in its avoidance of any sort of harsh sound, instead preferring to layer rich and warm synths until they hint at the slightly sinister.

When this album clicks, it is at its best and stands out as a strong psychedelic experimental album. However, there are a number of moments in which the music feels like its missing something, that it's somewhat hollow. That missing piece is a number of tracks that feel like instrumental versions of songs that originally had vocals attached.
