The remainder of Complicated contains a couple should-be successful singles, but it's far too patchy to be considered better than the debut. More sexually upfront and as sweet-voiced as ever, Nivea still needs more than a couple hot producers and guest MCs to truly stick out.
Penned by The-Dream, Nivea is just another generic singer of the 2000s who had a good enough voice to be turned into an artist for about 4 years before be put aside (was surpassed) by The-Dream. Honestly, this album is far from bad but far from memorable either. With a more talented/interesting singer or if Dream was in his prime, this would be a lot better because honestly the production is quite good. I enjoy both of the singles but the album has little to offer past that.
I listened to this after seeing Nivea on BET's Finding series that largely takes a look at some artists who were in the limelight for a short period in the mid-'00s. I remember some of these songs from back in the day when I started looking for music on the internet.
