The Skinny

On Brothers and Sisters… the textured production, layers of echo and oases of ethereal beauty frame Jurado the dreamer, the paranoiac and the stray in glorious Technicolor.

Paste

Brothers and Sisters features lush arrangements that Maraqopa only touched on (by comparison, although it was “out there” for Jurado at the time of its release). It takes 10 seconds of the first track, “Magic Number,” to realize that something is different here—this album has an unavoidable groove.

The 405

There's really nothing to criticise on Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son; it's Damien Jurado's strongest album to date

If Silver Timothy in particular can find a larger audience then perhaps Jurado will finally become a household name, as it is likely to pull in considerable visitors to the full album. Once inside, the quiet treasures within could open a whole new world for the listener.

80
AllMusic

This album continues the colorful and reaching work of the albums that preceded it, and if this pairing of Swift's deft production and Jurado's risk-taking songwriting continues, even greater things are on the horizon than these already gorgeous songs.

80
PopMatters

While Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son is also a “journey” album, this time Jurado increasingly blurs the line between physical leave-taking and spiritual inventory.

80
American Songwriter

Brothers and Sisters is a journey out into Maraqopa and deep into Jurado. It is straightforwardly an album about loss and resurrection, but it’s also not in any way straightforward.

70
The Line of Best Fit

Jurado’s disregard for convention and appetite for reinvention stick out like a sore thumb amongst the output of many of his contemporaries

70
NME

'Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son' bills itself as a concept album, a road movie with no end, but the songs are tight, the meaning incidental and any big ideas play second fiddle to bewitching tunes and delicate harmonies.

67
Consequence of Sound

Those familiar with Jurado’s work will find it his most drastic departure, but like his previous dives into new directions, it never really clouds his stellar songwriting.

60
Drowned in Sound

The dub-littered textures and conceptual frameworks are admirable in their artistic reach, but Jurado’s greatest strengths are found at his most stripped back on Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son.

Unexpectably groovy and unpredictably trippy it overpasses time and lands on dreamland.
