coming after Amputechture, my least favorite of their projects so far, The Bedlam in Goliath seemed like it would be another neutered, less enjoyable project, signifying The Mars Volta's semi-decline in ability to write engaging and interesting music. the lower userscore didn't help either. BUT, i'm excited to say, THAT IS NOT THE CASE! The Bedlam in Goliath is an absolute hidden gem in TMV's catalog, bursting out of their lesser-known albums like a xenomorph and wrecking shit all around it. ... read more

Do you want a Mars Volta album without the breaks and just non-stop genre-blending, experimental psychedelic prog-rock ACTION? Well my good friend, The Bedlam In Goliath is exactly that. I'd say this is easily their loudest album yet; even with the explosions of energy all throughout Frances The Mute and Deloused In The Comatorium, this one just throws it all at the wall. They don't ease you into the action either; in the FIRST SECOND of the album it immediately throws you into the action with ... read more

Edit: There's so much good meat here, it just needs to be clipped up a little and de-distorted. The wacky effects uwu all over Cedric and some of the noise is appalling.

It feels like each step I take into this talented band, they try to switch up their sound. It worked three times. On this LP, we see them present ideas, and either play it out too long/odd, or completely sidestep it. (Wax Simulcra is ONLY two minutes, like come on at least the Widow for being one of the short cuts in its ... read more

Bedlam In Goliath continues the energetic and experimental edge of The Mars Volta and it's another win. The one major flaw with this album however are the vocals in places which can sound grating at points. Besides that almost everything here is fire.

The energy and momentum of the album is relentless. Cedrics vocals and the effects used are batshit and straight bedlam. Always great playing and contains a 3-4 of my favorite TMV songs, but this is a significant drop in songwriting quality and musicality and kind of grates on you the further you get in the album. There are standout tracks, but listening to the album as a whole is difficult for me and I don’t find myself ever returning to the second half.

Favs: Aberinkula-Tourniquet Man
