I was expecting thrash metal from this but Imperialist have created some pretty solid black metal here. Love the sci-fi theme and the artwork of Cipher. Some really great material here. Another plus is that they are a sci-fi band that doesn't abuse their wife (looking at you Vektor). Musically it is a tad generic but I do enjoy the atmosphere of it. The lyrical writing by the band is definitely fun, I also like the vocalists general sound. The Singularity is a solid speedy track. Advent Anathema is solid as well but I was hoping for more variations or uniqueness to stand out more.
Splendor Beneath An Ancient Perma does bring the riffs a little more, structured nicely. I like the more mid tempo nature around Umbra Tempest, theres some dissonance to the guitar as well. The spooky keys in the background in parts of the 2nd half of the track ... read more
