On Pop Wolfgang Voigt lightens the tone of his Gas work, adding earthly sounds and brighter melodies.


On Pop, Voight switches things up. Gone are the gloomy samples, and the signature bass heartbeat appears on but two of these seven long tracks. Instead of containing linear motion, Pop is an exercise in sonic texture.

I partially feel bad for giving this album a 60. It's textured, is extremely beautiful, and on a technical level there's not much wrong with it. I just find for me personally, there's not enough going on for me to really sink my teeth into like I could a Tim Hecker project (not saying the two artists are similar, just an ambient artist that comes to mind when thinking of ones I enjoy). This what the club in my fever dreams sounds like
German artist and producer Wolfgang Voigt has had a multiple-project career, and ventured towards any kind of electronic-music direction one can think of, but his best known effort certainly still (deservingly) is Gas. On Pop, Voigt brings in the assembly of watery synths, four-on-the-floor kick drums and a very repetitive song cycle that runs deep through the album.
