On Pop Wolfgang Voigt lightens the tone of his Gas work, adding earthly sounds and brighter melodies.

On Pop, Voight switches things up. Gone are the gloomy samples, and the signature bass heartbeat appears on but two of these seven long tracks. Instead of containing linear motion, Pop is an exercise in sonic texture.

Recently, I had the great pleasure of writing an article on the ambient music of Gas, for MasterCrackfox and his excellent blog/podcast site, “Record Roundtable.Com”.

You can find the link at the bottom of the page in the comments.

Ambient music for a new century: Gas’s groundbreaking record “Pop.”

Have you ever noticed the ambiance of a certain occasion and have wanted to expound upon it by putting on relaxing music? Maybe you have put on classical music at ... read more

I partially feel bad for giving this album a 60. It's textured, is extremely beautiful, and on a technical level there's not much wrong with it. I just find for me personally, there's not enough going on for me to really sink my teeth into like I could a Tim Hecker project (not saying the two artists are similar, just an ambient artist that comes to mind when thinking of ones I enjoy). Very cool loops that reminded me of the disintegration loops at points, very relaxing textures, that last track was an ass shaker which i wasn't expecting at all lmao

"POP" of GAS is as clean and meditating of an album as a drone/ambient project can be.
With the most pleasing, dare I even say - luxurious sounds, this record provides for a pleasurable musical experience that reestablishes how breathtakingly transcendental an album of this genre can be.
Honestly, my only issue with this release is that it is not longer, because I could spend hours wandering to these minimalistic soundscapes :)

normally I wouldn't fw this at all but I actually really like the minimalist aspect of it. I haven't listened to any other gas albums but I can guess they are similar in their scope and spread. Reminds me of my all time favorite electronic album, selected ambient works 2 by Aphex Twin. Very cool.
