I am absolutely astounded by how boring this release is

Nothing new or special here at all

An absolute fucking snoozefest

Panda Bear's solo career has an oddly specific set of expectations from me - expectations one-of-a-kind from other artists. This all has to do with his 2007 album, Person Pitch.
Person Pitch instilled a love for a specifically slow, open and distant sound only Panda Bear could seem to make, and that aesthetic has been applied and slightly tweaked on each of his releases since.
Unlike Person Pitch, Tomboy and Panda Bear vs. the Grim Reaper felt a lot drier and flatter - the distant aesthetic ... read more

additional thoughts: I've spent the last month with this album and its really grown on me a lot. I LOVE the middle third especially, but I'm at a point where I can enjoy the entire album from start to finish. Why is panda talking about slapping a jelly ass and cheeky slaps LOL! The man still loves his repetitions, but he is more restrained in that sense which I think is a good thing.

After MPP, AnCo's experiments stopped surprising, as it was before. Perhaps the culprit is the phenomenal success of this release, which brought the band to a completely different level of popularity. And unfortunately with such popularity they could not properly cope. Lost most of their picaresque and adventurous sound landscapes they created. Of course there were interesting tracks, but all this was not something you really expect from such a great team, you could feel the plasticity of their ... read more

I was arguing about Dolphin was not a good single choice for album but after listened the whole album decided to its very accurated to represent the album itself. If anyone didnt like the Dolphin, probably not gonna like album too. Also I am the person who thinks this album was much better in live performances. But still there is really good music in here that deserve listening.

As always, Panda knows how cook unique taste in every new album and again in this album, there are many new elements ... read more

Very, very nice album. Grows on me with every listen. Can't stop listening to this album, it's only a day old and it's one of my favorite folk albums of the year!

A total grey album. While nothing sticks out as terrible, nothing really buoys to the surface. He has a great voice, and I like Noah Lennox as a musician. I just forgot this album came out, and was listening to it and forgot it came out again.

I am sad to be bored by a Panda Bear album, womp womp.

Longest 30 minutes of my life. Echoed acoustic guitar and annoying vocals that have been murdered with reverb for 9 tracks. Terrible.

"Inner Monologue" wasn't unlistenable, and I actually enjoyed the quicker tempo of the guitar paired with the slow vocal mantra "we ran away" repeated throughout the song, but my man decided to add a crying girl sound effect over the duration of the track, effectively ruining it.

QUICK THOUGHTS: This album is the equivalent of Chinese water torture. Every second of the 31-minute runtime is unbearable instrumentally, vocally, lyrically, everything. One of the least pleasant albums I've heard in recent memory, maybe ever.

BEST TRACKS: *NONE*

WORST TRACKS: *ALL OF THEM*

Oh so you ditched AnCo to go make a different ocean album?

I'm so relieved this actually came out to be good. Dolphin had me worried, and was, quite frankly, a poor lead single choice and opener being maybe the worst track here. Strange hearing so much of Noah's naked voice, but I warmed up to it.

I actually enjoyed this kinda a lot. I have to admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of PBMTGR, but this one actually gave me exactly what I expected. This whole album is a trip, the kind of folktronica and neo-psychodelia that only Panda Bear and the AnCo crew can make.
The production in general is pretty good, I really like the mix between the folk elements and the more electronic ones; I personally didn't care that much for the lyrics, It doesn't sound like a very personal record, but it ... read more

Come into this record with expectations and you'll be disappointed. Come into this record with an open mind and the willingness to enjoy it is, and you'll still likely be let down. Panda Bear releases a record with ultimately clunky and awkward production, and the overall end result feels lazy. The opening track immediately sets the listener into an awkward position of wanting to enjoy the vocals and instrumentation but being misguided by the backing sounds to the point that you're jarred out ... read more

"Buoys" is probably one of the weirder ventures Mr. Noah has released and I enjoyed it... for the most part. The production is stunning, with a return to more organic, acoustic instruments. Noah's rather naked vocals, while disorienting at first, are a nice change of pace from what he usually does with his previous records. I also enjoyed the writing here, which feels more abstract than before. Admittedly, it does get into some goofy territory at times ("A slap on a jelly ... read more

On one end, this album is slightly on the underwhelming side, as its main compositional focuses and techniques in the timbral area weren't as immensely captivating of a trip as they set out to be. On the other end, though, this album pleasantly surprises, as it never becomes a lopsided or single-dimension affair that it could've easily fell into. Sure, the electronic sonic blanket was the focal point throughout, but I would be remiss to say that it wasn't carefully decorated with strong pitch ... read more

Buoy, I tried my best at tolerating those vocals but I guess they aren't for everybody. Buoys marks the fourth installment in Panda Bear discography and it's funny to listen to his solo work after hearing Animal Collective's music because inmediatly you can spot the big influences his sound has on AnCo outcome. However, I feel like while AnCo is more bouncy and risky, Panda Bear tends to be more reserved and chill, it's not a bad thing at all but sometimes it presents a contrast that doesn't ... read more

At first it just sounds like weird production and awkward singing, but the quirkiness and synthetic style of the album really shines after a few listens.

Holy crap this is boring. I mean some of the production is pretty cool for most of the time but the rest of the record mostly including the vocals, just feel like sounding weird for the sake of sounding weird.

Noah Lennox’s newest album under the Panda Bear is far from the worst album you’ll hear in these stylings all year. But this is easily the safest album he’s ever put out, with vocals that aren’t nearly as memorable and production that’s average at best.

Give A Listen To: “Cranked”, “I Know I Don’t Know”, “Inner Monologue” “Crescendo”

The instrumentals on this album were pretty gripping and love the samples used in some of the tracks, but besides that, I couldn't help and feel bored throughout this whole album. Noah's vocals for the duration of the album got tiring to hear due to the autotune and almost unbearable. Overall, this was pretty underwhelming.

Favorite Tracks: Dolphin, Inner Monologue.

As an overall record, it has not worked enough, but if it is detached on the highlight tunes, it is worthy to listen. By the way, it has some dope ambient synth.

Panda Bear's latest leaves me wanting a lot more. The instrumentation feels stagnant for most of the album, making this project feel a lot longer than it is. I commend Lennox's commitment to the watery aesthetic and mixing but most of the time I find it somewhat irritating. I feel like this kind of mixing is done much better by an artist such as Tame Impala. I do like the intricate weirdness of this album however, like the water drops and laser synths. Overall I am not sure there are any tracks ... read more

Panda Bear is on a mission to be my least favorite member of my favorite band. This album sounds incredibly childish. While a lot of AnCo's music is meant to invoke the feeling of childhood, this is normally contextualized by focusing on nostalgic feelings and innocence lost. This album just feels like I'm bobbing up in down on the water. I recognize that was the point of the album, but the majority is just so annoying. The melodies feel trite, the lyrics are ridiculously silly - but not in a ... read more

What the fuck is he doing to his vocals?
Ehhhh, some moments are strange, quirky and eclectic, all of this is meant positively, songs like Inner Monologue and Home Free are my favorites which add a sense of introspection to the chaos which first manifests itself in the beginning of this album. My problem with this album has to be the fact that it does not seem to know exactly what it is or what it wants to be, it sure wants to be weird and strange and makes sure its audience knows that, but ... read more

I don't know what he tries to do here except stange noise and gimmicks. Take token and dolphin, the singles. Any of them stands by themselves and any have connection. As you listen the entire album, you can be more and more confused by the structure of the tracks and the lack of connection. This is a bad thing because few tracks are really good (Buoys and I know I don't know are pretty cool thought).

The person pitch era is far away.

Termina antes de volverse tortuoso. Nada completamente destacable, pero es un agradable rato con un flujo coherente y una producción atmosférica.
