So, as everyone on this site knows I’m not a fan of Girl in Red. My most liked review on this site is tearing her debut album to absolute shreds. It seemed like everything that pissed me off about music the most was in that album. Maybe this is too generous of a score, but I also don’t give a shit. Growing up queer in the early high school years, I latched onto any music of that category I could find. It doesn’t speak to me as much as it did when I was a freshman now that I’m a senior about to graduate, but I still think it holds up. It's really sweet and dreamy. The vocals have character and although flat at times, work in the context of this dreamy atmosphere she's going for. I don't know if i could see a full length project like this keeping my attention but as a bitesize project it was very pleasant.
This EP is one of the few instances where unintentionally rough production makes the project infinitely better.

chapter 1 is clearly a project that was created solely because Marie Ulven needed to get her feelings off her chest, and this genuine aura that she emits is the best aspect of this EP. Hearing echoey vocals with subdued guitar riffs soothes the soul, and Ulven's struggles with her sexuality are relatable but not overbearing. The EP perfectly encapsulates feelings of anxiety and uncertainty, specifically about sexuality and coming to terms with who you are and who you love. The raw production gives an aura of reality to the EP and its subject matters.
