CRITIC REVIEWS

Pitchfork

The band remains unafraid to spill outside lines, hit off awkward phrases and off notes, and continually stretch themselves. They’ll still take energy and impulse over caution or precision, and that gives even their shapliest songs an edge of unpredictability.

AllMusic

Grassed Inn also finds the band reveling in a wider range of sounds and textures ... Perhaps more importantly, Blank Realm expand their palette of moods on Grassed Inn, and some of the album's saddest moments are also the best.

The Skinny

Daniel Spencer’s endearingly lackadaisical vocals mesh perfectly with the reverb-heavy jangling rhythm guitars, acquiring an added poignancy when the outfit explore melancholy shoegaze noise

The Line of Best Fit

Grassed Inn anchors itself with sturdy, rhythmic melodies, which is the biggest testament to Blank Realm’s mission of increasing focus and tightening up their ship.

There is a fine line between catchiness and tedium on Grassed Inn, and the formula doesn’t always work.

While Pitchfork Media has a point with their assessment, "The band remains unafraid to spill outside lines, hit off awkward phrases and off notes, and continually stretch themselves," this hardly qualifies an 80 rating. While Falling Down The Stairs does echo a VU reminiscent musical aspiration and quality, most of the tracks do tread into uncharted territory.

A couple of these songs are just great and addictive. Back to the Flood and Bulldozer Love are my standouts. I hear influences of the Clean and am liking it.

Somewhere between The Go-Betweens and The Triffids lies this brilliant art-pop album.
A bit out of tune, they manage to turn it into an advantage due to their overall generosity.
A real gem.

It seems like I had a lot of "grass" and listened to this album. Boring.
