Even with the variation in styles—or perhaps because of this disparity—unlike Torches, Supermodel doesn’t have instant stickability. Instead, it is a slow grower. It’s worth it though, so be patient.

AllMusic

The band's 2014 sophomore album, Supermodel, finds Foster and company sticking to their winning pop formula, while evincing a more organic, less claustrophobic studio sound.

Paste

With Supermodel, Foster the People haven’t jumped the shark—they’ve just made it shinier.

Spin

The songs suck, which is odd, because the formula has not dramatically changed.

i love this album so damn much and i dont see how people can think that its boring. in my eyes, this is hands down better than torches and sacred hearts club and there isn't one song i dislike. (album cover is ugly tho)

yes, this is different than ftp's debut, however it is better. it lacks poppy radio hits, but has deeper and slower songs that give Supermodel the character that Torches didn't have. i wasn't expecting the A$AP Rocky sample, but it really added to beginner's guide. overall, this may be labeled as a sophomore slump, but this LP has some really different and excellent music.

Serves as a great listen. The album features some clever songwriting. The vocals may not be the greatest, but are decent. There is a variety in the use of instruments as well. It is a slow grower that takes a few listens to find catchy, but is worthwhile (at least to me). It becomes a great album that does not fail to serve as an easy listen. Simply put, I think it is a heavily underrated album.

Ahhhhhh now THIS is an underrated gem. Much better than their previous work. I guess I'm more of a fan for more organic/acoustic sounds for my indie music. Also, their traditional "Catchy Indie Pop" style is SO MUCH BETTER and much more refined in here.

"Pseudologia Fantastica", "Best Friend", "Beginner's Guide....." are some of the best stuff they've written. "Goats In Trees, "Fire Escape"..........all underrated songs.
