With Christmas as his backdrop, he gets to really unleash the chords without consequence. He tinkers with sounds in this low-stakes arena with all the excitement of a kid tearing through wrapping paper Christmas morning.

Tyler, the Creator leaves an awkward and weakly assembled Christmas EP under the tree.

I mean, it's bad but you can see he didn't even take it seriously. Why are people saying he's selling out??? It's a ten minute Christmas EP based on the fucking Grinch! Did you expect a masterpiece?

This would be more fun if Tyler could say "fuck"

Uh... this is basically a set of awful Flower Boy B Sides.

But like in sellout form... not saying it is a sellout... cause it feels less like a sellout than most artists making projects like this. However, it is insanely awkward front to back. on the second half, there is some sweet jazz. I think it is okay... but man could it have been better.

Best: Big Bag, When Gloves Come Off
Worst: Hot Chocolate

I'm scared that Tyler's next project will follow the sound of flower boy. Flower boy is amazing, but i want Tyler to stay creative. This doesn't sound like he's changing anything up. It's like a "Mediocre Mini Flower Boy Christmas Edition EP"

And this project does have sparks of potential for Tyler's future composition works, with the instrumental parts of this record fitting The Grinch's theme of Christmas cheer. However, the actual songs that are "inspired" by The Grinch stink of jolly-holly cheese. And while it's an interesting direction to take an EP, it's a bit beneath Tyler to be making tracks about hot chocolate at this point in his career. ... read more
