God Is in the TV

On this strong comeback, the band cover all the bases and they give fans what they want.

With Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out they sound like a band having more fun than ever before. All three of those exclamation marks are entirely justified.

80
Clash

After a few listens you get the feeling Art Brut are generally excited to be recording together again. The time apart has done them the world of good, as the enthusiasm they exude is infectious.

The Line of Best Fit

Distinct in his delivery, Argos manages still to cut the crap and leave you with a stark realism and life that allows you to open yourself up to grander ideas.

Paste

If Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out! is a ramble, it’s an infectious ramble, too much fun not to rock out to.

75
Northern Transmissions

With music that is a little nostalgic but rarely detrimentally derivative, Art Brut only suffer from some mix and performance approach concepts. On the other hand, they do also have some of the wittiest lyrics on any album this year.

70
Exclaim!

As their past few LPs suffered from a bout of structural sameness, Wham! Bang! Pow! Let's Rock Out! contains just enough musical and lyrical variety to place it amongst Art Brut's finest work.

70
Drowned in Sound

It’s obvious now that Art Brut work best when they’re back to basics, reminding us what it might have been like to be fresh out of university in pre-recession times, and ensuring that we can dance along with them while they’re at it.

70
Pitchfork

On Art Brut’s charmingly humbled fifth album, Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!, Argos’ ambitions are decidedly modest.

60
PopMatters

Art Brut still gives us plenty of reasons to rock out, but this album doesn't leave enough of its own mark.

40
NME

A cheap’n’cheerful collection that retreats from the expansion of the band’s sound that their last three albums attempted, instead settling for a modest recreation of the intimacy of ‘Bang Bang Rock & Roll’.

This album is pretty straight forward about what it is. It's fun, it's punky, and the spoken-singing style is something that makes it pretty unique. The album is never taking itself too seriously and inevitably makes the whole collection of songs a fun bit of music. It's not really trying too hard, and it would never be considered an all-time classic. Pretty simply, it's a bop, and it's a success for these reasons.

Favorite track: Hospital!

A major improvement over their last LP, the last 5 tracks are absolutely great; but the first half is hit-or-miss.
