Loud and Quiet

Daughter fans looking for more of their panoramic leanings will be let down, but for everybody else this is a beautifully understated mood piece and Tonra’s finest work to date, with or without the band.

Northern Transmissions

Tonra has now unleashed a collection of songs both personal and subtly visceral, leaving relatable sonic imprints for the listener to contemplate.

Fully-formed, rich and incredibly affecting.

While there isn't always a tonne sonically to separate this from Tonra's day job, it must be applauded for its brutal honesty and moments of pure poetry.

AllMusic

The forlorn "Too Sad" is an example of a more high-contrast entry that alternates quiet piano and fuzz, but with "My Heart," Ex:Re finally disintegrates into silence.

Elena Tonra breaks the general rule of solo albums by lead singers from bands as this album absolutely needs to be under her own name. A deeply personal record covering loneliness, sexual assault, nostalgia and despair. The production is stunning and the instrumentation is minimal but always present. Each song has such a strong narrative as well. Would say Liar is perhaps the least impactful song but still great. A stunning yet devastating album overall.

Her name is Elena Tonra
I recognized a familiar voice
And same as in the group
She makes beautiful melodies
That doesn't match the lyrics

This album found me at exactly the right time. Tonra's voice is stunning as always but sonically I think I prefer this to her work with Daughter. Incredible stuff.

Favourites: Romance, Where The Time Went, The Dazzler, I Can't Keep You
Least Favourites: [literally nothing but I guess if I had to choose] My Heart

Daughter started as a solo project and later on became a band, and this record really shows that, the melancholic spirit of daughter that Elena Tonra carries whenever she goes into a studio was perfectly captured in this beautiful record
