The Independent
Malik will leave fans swooning with his maturing soulful falsetto, melismatic yearnings that check his heritage, and muzzy, midnight mutterings. The shining thread of his voice will lead them through passages of hope, dope, seduction and evasion.
A 27-track mosaic to be poured over time and again, ‘Icarus Falls’ is the pop star cementing himself in the echelon of stardom.
NOW Magazine

Icarus Falls is too long ... While Zayn can swag about features from Nicki Minaj and Timbaland, these collabs seem like an unnecessary play for cred and are tonally jarring compared to the album’s moody ambitions.

Whatever the artistic intent, Icarus Falls remains a monstrosity -- a bountiful gift or a daunting challenge, depending on the listener -- that deserves some attention if you have time and patience to spare.

The story of Icarus is one of tragedy, but there’s only signs of success within this offering as ZAYN begins the journey to realising his full potential.
The Young Folks
Malik still manages to keep his stylistic choices diverse and exciting, even if his lovesick attitude runs dry for a few portions of the album.

Icarus Falls, as a high-concept pop album, is fine. It shows off Zayn’s reluctant charisma and love-song-ready voice amid R&B ideas that are fully immersed in the present, for the most part for the better. True, it’s long, but given that its whole concept hinges on the idea of excess and its trickery, maybe that’s yet another sly wink from one of teen idoldom’s most enigmatic artists.

The Observer

It was easy to assume Icarus Falls might end up an exercise in hubris, but Malik is defying expectations, remaining in ascent.

Consequence of Sound

As a vehicle for blitzing the internet with Zayn singles, the album is totally effective. But the concept is only half-conceived, and the listening experience is repetitive and dull. When it comes to Icarus Falls, more is less.

Spectrum Culture

Icarus Falls proves Zayn Malik to be a competent musician. As for a compelling one, it fails to take the necessary risks its title suggests.

Slant Magazine

Much of the bloated Icarus Falls is big-budget filler—songs that seem like they were algorithmically generated from streaming data.

What the hell is wrong with you people.

Bot Invasions of 2018: at least 5

Edit: Someone get Rob 😤🚨

Edit 2: you think this is bot infested, check out Camila Cabello's album 😂
This is the last time I listen to an hour and a half of mainstream R&B streambait just cause a boy on tinder told me to.

(i’m making him listen to Aviary as reciprocation)
Haven't heard it yet and I don't really ever want to, but at least I can try to offset the bots
Boys: Kanye West vs Drake
Real Men: AOTY community vs Zayn bots

Don't let the 69 100/100s fool you. If you're here to actually talk about this album and be open-minded, then be ready for these Zayn bots to come trash your review for no reason.

Here's my honest opinion: This is laughably bad. It's so pandering, boring and tries so hard to be trendy, yet it fails to even make generic mainstream pop sound listenable.
Zayn’s sophomore album is a masterpiece— a work of art really. It has lows and highs, and let’s not forget the climaxes. It takes you on a journey with him that leaves you emotionally spent by the last note of that 27th song. The album is certainly not a one-hit wonder as a lot of albums are these days. Much like it’s creator who has made his own lane and defies conformity, this album cannot be boxed into one category. With 27 songs, there’s something for ... read more
