Inclusive, fresh and never not exiting, above and beyond anything else it’s almost impossible not to love SWMRS.

While their entire catalog is worth a listen -- from the no-frills punk of their first two efforts to 2015's Drive North -- Berkeley's on Fire feels different, like a band that's hitting their stride with a catchy blend of punk-indebted styles delivered with the conviction of a more seasoned act.

There's something about this record. The choice to incorporate a more electronic approach helps the band in certain areas, so it's not the ''''experimentation''''. But... I don't know, maybe it's the fact that i'm unacoustomed to this album, but it just seems very boring. There are some absolute stompers on here (see Fav Jams section + April in Houston) and it's well produced and well written. But...there's something about it. Lack of energy? A shift to a more accessible and pop centric sound? ... read more
Some bangers - doesn’t feel as unchained as Drive North which is a shame, wish they’d let loose a bit more. Closing track is awful. Still enjoyed it for the most part.

Decent 6/10.
Found this project pretty damn annoying and not fun to sit through. There are definitely tracks that are worth the listen, like the opening track, but most of it just rubbed me the wrong way. The attempts at experimentation felt quite awkward with the catchy, somewhat cheesily-performed lyrics and sound that it was going for. In the end, it's a low-impact album that has its pleasant moments, but too much of it is too dull to fully enjoy.
Even if it has a few highlights, like the catchy yet surprisingly off-kilter title track, the rest of "Berkeley's On Fire" is uninspired and other attempts at experimentation can be downright bad.

Fav Tracks: Berkeley's On Fire, Lose Lose Lose, April In Houston, Hellboy

Least Fav Tracks: Steve Got Robbed (holy shit), Too Much Coffee

i wanted to like this so much more than I did. These guys went to my high school, they are local legends, but they come through with a disappointing set of tracks that do little in pushing forward the genre that their parents did so much for. hopefully their next project will see improvement in terms of originality, song writing and melody's.

best: Berkeley's on Fire, April in Houston
worst: Too Much Coffee, Trashbag Baby, Lonely Ghosts, IKEA Date
absolute trash: Steve got Robbed
