Paysage d'Hiver's second demo, Schattengang, marks the point where Tobias went from releasing some fairly underwhelming atmospheric black metal to becoming one of the most exciting artists in the entire genre.

I’m always mesmerised by Paysage d’Hiver’s musical work. The Swiss artist really knows how to effectively translate the feeling of being alone, in the middle of a plain, stuck in a thick blizzard, prey to the danger of the elements, through his music. There is a sense of grandeur in the atmosphere that is felt through these songs; you feel small and enshrouded by the atmosphere. This is, uhh, a weird one. It doesn't work as well crafting the winterstorm atmosphere as let's say Winterkälte, but it excels in everything else, being a major step-up compared to Steineiche. Good stuff.
