The Beach Boys Surprisingly Strange Discography and History: Part 5
Shut Down Volume 2
In 1963 The Beach Boys were arguably the biggest band around, they released 3 records in that year, all were huge, all had great hits. But now it’s 1964 and beatlemania was at its height. So now The Beach Boys had competition and that should give them a reason to try a bit more. And it did…but not on this album.
You see this is another rushed release, they were trying to get it out the door as ... read more
The Beach Boys continue with their generic sound and release what is perhaps their most useless album up to this point.
When you look at the cover for this album, you assume that you're gonna get another hot rod rock album just like Little Deuce Coupe, and with the title referring to a track that was on said album, it would be pretty safe to say that that is what this album is: a hot rod rock album. The Worst Sin this album commits is being just forgettable. The only songs worth listening to on this album are "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "Don't Worry Baby". The Rest are just forgettable ... read more

However, after the terrible skit "Cassius" Love Vs. "Sonny" Wilson, the album starts to fall off badly. There are still some okay/decent songs after the skit, but nothing on the level of "Fun, Fun, Fun." They knew exactly what ... read more
