Ringer proves that an egghead can be a man of the people.
Ringer is about concealment and revelation, and it gains a great deal of tension in its quick juxtapositions of the two.
Trying to predict a future direction for Four Tet after Kieran Hebden's time recording with everyone from Steve Reid to his old trio Fridge shouldn't even have been attempted, but the Ringer EP is still a big surprise.
Ringer finds Kieran Hebden back poring over his console and screen, with four lengthy tracks of intermittently pleasing minimal techno.
The first couple of tracks start of really promisingly but this EP tails of and the final two tracks are not to the same standard. Four Tet rarely disappoint though.
Essential Track - Ringer
A nice EP from Four Tet. I enjoyed how the long tracks didn't get stale and were constantly evolving throughout the runtime.
