Ellis has a vocal delivery that reminds me of, if you recognize the name, Nate Ruess of The Format and fun. fame. He delivers his potent lyrics with a sense of whimsy, even when those same lyrics are down-to-earth and hit home on tracks like Father. The music plays like that of a Billy Joel piano bar type with a modern spin, which is less of a complaint than it may sound given that I hate piano bars.
