DISCLAIMER: GET READY FOR ANOTHER BOT INVASION GUYS (Zayn stans ain't gone have shit on Ari, once this drops)

Review: This was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I have been trashing the singles off of this thing (Especially 7 Rings) since they came out and was totally expecting this record to be significantly worse than any of Grande's previous works. The production is extremely clean and crisp, and Ariana's vocals are as strong and varied as ever.

My biggest issue on this record would ... read more

I actually think this is Grande's tightest album to date. With the lights abruptly dimmed on her prior era, Grande attempts to salvage some sense from the world by briefly sinking into a more emotionally potent side of herself. The subtle continuity of trap percussion nicely stages some of the otherworldly sound spaces, the orchid color thematic being an apt framing aesthetic. A fragile chasm of thought defined by both lyrical familiarity and formal uncertainty.

Rating: Great (74).

In my opinion, it's not as good as Sweetener but I think it's still a good effort. Maybe it's less memorable and it lacks most of the things that made Sweetener great but this is not Sweetener. This is more of a personal album about moving on. We all know the pressure Ariana has been under for the past months and I think the way she rises back to the top is just impressive. Still, Thank U, Next is a bit underwhelming. It feels bland and kinda dumb a lot of times. It feels like if it was a ... read more

This is rushed. It has lackluster song writing. The album’s title song clearly is the only song with personality. This is by far the least interesting follow up to her big smash single “Thank U, Next.”

Unfortunately disappointing

Should I say I am not surprised by the fall in quality? This seems so improvised and unoriginal, like this doesn't seem to be a good move from her at all. At first, I thought 7 rings was boring, then I listened to the whole piece of cake and guess what? It got worse and plus cliché. Underwhelming. well, I hope she takes more time to release something the next time.

In fact, the song "bad idea", seems to represent better what I mean. When she says: "I got a bad idea" ... read more

Am I surprised by the dip in quality from last year’s “Sweetener”? No. Am I surprised that Ariana Grande’s voice is good? No. But what surprised me about “thank u, next” is how uninspired it all is. Arizona Grand Canyon steals from many hit pop songs from last year. Why does “7 rings” sound like a horrible Princess Nokia track? Why does “bloodline” sound like “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco? What’s with all the ... read more

i can't tell if it the trap beats, the odd samples, or the strings that i find the most confusing. this album, unfortunately, sounds like a record made by a group of people locked in a room for two months with little outside input (oh wait, it is exactly that.) there are nuggets of melodies or ideas i like. 'bad idea' is almost a fully realized song, though something still feels missing from the skeletal backdrop. i don't hate the last track, and 'needy' feels like a classic ari track. the ... read more

I do not know how to treat her as a person, but this album not bad. There are a lot of interesting trap beats and how they all blend in with each other. Also very pleased with the proprietary "sweet" voice processing.

Honestly not bad... imagine and ghostin are legitimately great pop songs. The rest can be a bit forgettable, and 7 Rings is still laughable, but honestly this was quite a bit better than I expected.

I can see my score going down in the future due to the hooks (weakest part of like every track) but this is a great follow up to Sweetener. Fun songwriting and great production in general. The addition of vulnerable tracks 'imagine' and 'ghostin' rounds things up very nicely. No weak tracks

Review coming in the next day or so.

I can understand why people wouldn't be to big on this album as it can seen as to much pop. For me though this album is super catchy and enjoyable. NASA, blood line, and make up are songs I just wanna get up and dance to!! Then I get in my feelings with songs like imagine and ghosting. The type of songs you listen to at 3 am and you're just sad. I think this is Ariana's best album yet.

Although I view this album as slightly below but nearly on par with Grande's release last year, there are quite a few things to commend the artist for on this record. The sonic beats and her masterful voice really pop on this record, similar to Sweetener, but the content is not quite as eye-catching as one had would have expected after her tumultuous year prior. Perhaps this record is not about reflecting on this but moving forward with her career. Nevertheless, Grande continues to be perhaps ... read more

Maybe this is not the biggest thing, but I appreciate the efforts that ari has made on this. It is obviusly nos as good as my sweeet sweeeeet sweeetener buzzz buzz honey. But yeah, it is kind of consistent, and not very bad at the same time. Well, let’s see if my opinion changes throughout the weekend.

edit: I find it as a great album experience, bell balanced and with some lows but with lots of highlights like: Imagine, needy, make up ( very beyoncé type of track ), thank u, ... read more

A worthy follow up to sweetener: while Make-Up has an internal toxicity to it, thank u next’s gloomy pop affair goes down a treat more often than not.

Update (19/02/19): These bops are too much for me to deny. Make-Up is still a tad fucked but thematically and sonically this is pretty damn wonderful. 78 ==> 82

Boring and uninspired. 2018's Sweetener had led me to believe Ariana was taking steps to improve as a pop star but this record was just a disappointment. This album is just pretty much your standard and boring pop R'n'B and it just falls into a lot of the cliches found in mainstream music. It's as bland as you get throwing in trap drums only to show how boring it is. There isn't much else to say about thank u, next other than that it is a shallow and rushed album that just doesn't have much ... read more

i miss the melodies she used to have, not really into the trap direction shes taking but somehow it's well-managed here, the slower songs are very much appreciated, while songs like 7 rings and make up sound basic and poorly executed, as her shortest body of work it shows cohesion and deliver catchy top 10 hits, it's a good album and probably her best project to date .

favs: imagine, needy, NASA, ghostin

Boy oh boy this is lackluster. The short production time is so evident on Thank u next because it lacks almost all of the creative energy that her 2018 project, Sweetener, had. It’s ridiculously trendy, and boring because of it.

The production is all over the place, sometimes regular pop and other times trap R&B. There were some neat ideas she had regarding the latter half of those two, but never fully committed to or did anything interesting with them. She used some sampling of ... read more

I gave this another listen, and while some of the songs are a lot more enjoyable than I remember, that still doesn't leave some issues I have in the shadows. It's certainly not awful, I can say that, but one main issue is the songwriting in this album. Only a few of the tracks on this album had any actual substance in terms of lyrical content, and the rest just felt quite shallow (especially on the final track.)

fav tracks: needy, ghostin, thank u, next

Ariana has been evolving since Dangerous Woman, but this time she is totally stuck, her predecessor Sweetener sounded cheerful, funny and full of life, instead thank u, next is totally the opposite, gloomy, depressing, sad, for boring moments and flat, like his was the B side. It's a shame that he's going for this musical style and not exploring other areas a little more pop. The first part and the final part of the album is the only thing that can be rescued, everything else sounds like filler ... read more

"Fake Smiles", "Needy" and of course "Ghoustin" are the most listenable songs of this album excluding singles. they are the ones that (as far as i remember) free of trap beats and they are like a breath of fresh air. "ghoustin"'s lyrics are intertwined with ariana's real thoughts about rumors that surrounded her making the song really sincere, genuine and vivid.

the fact that there are no collaborations is palpable and makes a listener immerse in ... read more

"NASA" and the first three minutes of "bad idea" were okay, wouldn't listen on repeat but they were okay.
I still kind of like the title track but when placed with the rest of the songs it actually comes out the other end being less listenable.
Everything else sounds like a slowed down hand crank music box.
"ghostin" felt like it was never going to end, like being in a blackhole... I legitimately couldn't believe there was 13 minutes left in the album after it ... read more

Ariana Grande does not disappoint on her latest pop powerhouse "thank u, next".

This cute and catchy collection of tunes will be sure to stick in your head with the longing and self-aware chorus in "needy", the adorable lyrics in "NASA", or the masterful production and beatwork of "fake smile". There are plenty of moments on here that are just so clean and memorable.

I think the short downtime between Sweetener and this album doomed it to have the "too rushed" accusation thrown left and right. In truth, it doesn't sound any less put-together than her other records; she probably could have sat on this material for another six months and released it unchanged to no complaint.

Overall a fine final product that knows just how far back it wants to lift the curtain, even with a few duds in the mix. "bloodline" is a banger, but also such an ... read more

While it has some bold moments, "Thank u, next" is rather flat. We feel the raw emotions have left her, while fame and flex culture have taken over. This album feels numb at times and I think itdoesn't have the spark that made "Sweetener" stand out.
